We wrapped up a cleanup this week for a business owner who felt behind before the year even started. A few focused hours of reconciliation and review brought everything back into alignment.

Now, instead of scrambling at the end of March, they’re heading into Q2 with confidence.

Small steps now prevent big headaches later.

One thing we see every March: when your books are clean, everything else in your business runs smoother… including payroll.

Whether you run payroll yourself or ask us to handle it, accurate books mean:
• employee pay matches your records
• payroll liabilities stay in line
• quarterly reporting is less stressful
• cash flow is easier to predict

Payroll doesn’t have to be complicated. When the foundation is solid, it becomes just another part of a healthy financial rhythm.

March is the month where the year starts to take shape. January and February are behind you, and now is the perfect time to pause and ask: Are my books telling the full story?

A quick Q1 review can uncover things like:
- uncategorized transactions
- missing receipts
- vendor balances that don’t look right
- income that hasn’t been matched to deposits
- expenses sitting in the wrong accounts

Cleaning these up now means you enter Q2 with clarity—not catch‑up.

Your books should support your decisions, not slow them down. If they’re feeling heavy, this is the perfect moment to reset.

As you wrap up January’s bookkeeping, here’s a quick reminder:

Your bank feed is helpful — but it’s not the whole story.
Bank feeds miss context, vendor details, split transactions, and sometimes entire entries.

They’re a starting point, not a final answer. Your register is where the truth lives.

Review it regularly, reconcile it monthly, and use the bank feed as a tool — not the book itself.

If your feed and register don’t match, that’s a sign something needs attention, not a reason to panic. We help small businesses clean this up every day.

As January wraps up, many business owners start reviewing their first month of the year — and that’s when you’ll spot a few transactions that landed in the wrong place.

Here’s the good news: reclassing is completely normal.
Even seasoned bookkeepers adjust categories as they learn more about a business’s activity.

If something’s wrong, fix it.
If something changed, update it.
Clean books evolve — and accuracy always wins over sticking with a mistake.
If you’re unsure how to reclass in QuickBooks, we’re happy to walk you through it.

It’s 1099 season — and the cleanest 1099s always start with clean contractor setup.

Before you pay a contractor, take one minute to collect the essentials:

• A completed W‑9
• Their correct legal name
• Whether they’re an individual or an LLC
• Their tax ID number (EIN or SSN)

Doing this upfront saves hours of January stress and prevents incorrect or missing 1099s.

A little preparation now = a smooth filing later.
If you’re unsure how to set this up in QuickBooks, we can help you get it right.

Unmatched Transactions = Hidden Errors

Start your week with clarity.
