Market Commentary: A Strong August Sets Stocks Up for a Better September Than Feared

August is usually considered a weak month for stocks. This year, the S&P 500 is up about 3% with one trading day left.
That matters, because when August was positive and stocks were already up 10% to 17.5% for the year, the final four months gained in 10 of 11 past instances.
It’s a small historical sample, not a forecast. But it’s one reason September’s bad reputation may not tell the whole story this year.

Market Commentary: Fear on Wall Street, Resilience on Main Street

Stocks reached new highs last week.

You might not guess that from how investors are feeling.

Bears have outnumbered bulls for four straight weeks, and retail investors recently sold at one of the fastest clips on record.

Historically, bull markets have tended to end amid euphoria, not when investors are still this nervous.

See why all that caution may be worth paying attention to:

If you only listened to investors last week, you would think stocks were nowhere near record territory. Bears outnumbered bulls again in a widely followed

Estate planning often begins with a few important questions.

Who do you trust to make decisions for you if you can’t? What do you want your plan to say? And if you already have a plan, does it still fit your life as it is now?

In this on-demand session, we’ll cover:

• The questions an estate plan can answer
• How taxes may affect what you leave behind
• When it may be time to put a plan in place or review the one you have

July’s jobs report looked weak at first glance.

Payrolls fell by 23,000 and prior months were revised lower. But unemployment also fell to 4.1%, prime-age employment remained high, and layoffs stayed unusually low.

Hiring has slowed. The broader labor picture, though, may be more stable than the headline suggests.

The Federal Reserve left interest rates unchanged and struck a more dovish tone.

The bond market told a different story.

Short-term yields fell, while longer-term yields surged and the 30-year Treasury reached its highest level since 2007. That split may reflect concerns about inflation now and the possibility of a tougher Fed response later.

Higher interest rates can’t produce more oil, computer chips, or shipping capacity. So why would the Federal Reserve consider raising them?

The concern is what happens after a supply shock. Higher costs can spread into transportation, food, services, and wages, especially when demand remains strong.

See why the Fed may act even when it can’t fix the original shortage, and what that could mean for markets: https://ow.ly/G7TQ50ZuplE

Life insurance isn’t one-size-fits-all.

Each type works a little differently.

Some provide straightforward coverage. Others may include cash value, added flexibility, or benefits tied to needs such as long-term care.

Once you understand what each type does, it’s easier to figure out which may be right for you. Your goals, budget, and when you need it also matter when discussing coverage with a financial professional.

When people start thinking about retirement, one question usually comes first: Have I saved enough?

But it’s rarely the only question that matters.

Taxes, long-term care, estate planning, and replacing a paycheck for decades can all shape what retirement actually looks like.

Markets faced plenty of turbulence in the first half of 2026, from an oil spike and geopolitical conflict to persistent inflation and sharp swings in stocks.

Still, earnings expectations climbed, AI investment accelerated, and the S&P 500 finished the first six months up 10.2%.
