How Retirement Has Changed Over the Last 75 Years (And What It Means for Your Plan)

Retirement used to mean a short, quiet final chapter. For many people today, it's something else entirely. For much of the last century, retirement followed a fairly predictable pattern: work for decades, retire around age 65, and slow down. Today, that picture looks very different.Retirement has evo...

July is a month of outdoor adventure, reminding us of the beauty in the natural world around us. This month, we are sharing a story about a remarkable effort to protect the animals that are a part of that world.

In Colorado, North America's largest wildlife overpass has officially opened along a six-lane stretch of Interstate 25 near Larkspur. Measuring 200 feet wide and covered with dirt and native vegetation, the Greenland overpass now allows moose, elk, black bears, mountain lions, and pronghorn to safely cross a highway that once saw an average of one wildlife-vehicle collision every single day. Completed ahead of schedule and on budget, the structure connects 39,000 acres of habitat on both sides of the highway and is expected to reduce wildlife-vehicle crashes by 90%.

It is a beautiful reminder that when communities, agencies, and organizations come together with a shared purpose, the results can be extraordinary.

June marks a natural checkpoint in the year, especially for business owners and entrepreneurs who start the year with big goals and strong momentum.

By now, some plans may be moving forward, while others might still be waiting for the right time, the right resources, or the perfect strategy. Progress in business rarely begins with perfect conditions. More often, it starts with simply taking the next step with what is already available.

Whether you are building a new venture, growing your client base, refining your services, or pursuing a goal that has been sitting on your list since January, forward motion matters more than perfection.

As we move through the rest of the month, take a moment to reflect: What is one business goal or challenge you could move forward with today, even with imperfect conditions? Feel free to share it in the comments. We would love to hear what you’re pursuing in the second half of the year.

Mid-year is a good time to review your financial strategy, especially if you’ve recently experienced a major life event. When income, family structure, taxes, or risk exposure change, your strategy should evolve too.

Here are a few life events that may signal it’s time for a review:

🔵 Career Changes or Income Shifts - Promotions, new roles, or job transitions can alter retirement strategy, benefits, and overall income stability.
🔵 Marriage or Partnership Changes - Combining finances with a spouse or long-term partner affects debt management, retirement strategy, and investing goals.
🔵 Divorce or Separation - Asset division, new housing costs, and changing household income may require adjustments to savings rates, investment risk levels, and long-term retirement timelines.
🔵 Birth or Adoption of a Child - Adding a dependent introduces new long-term expenses and planning considerations.
🔵 Inheritance or Windfall Events - Sudden liquidity can strengthen long-term planning if integrated thoughtfully.
🔵 Home Purchase or Relocation - Housing decisions influence overall liquidity and debt, and often require long-term planning to manage.

Life events often reshape financial reality faster than markets do. If you’d like to discuss how recent life changes may affect your strategy, feel free to reach out. We’re always here to help.

Life insurance is designed to protect against financial risk tied to income, debts, and long-term obligations. When those factors change, coverage may need to be reassessed. Swipe for a brief overview of why income changes matter for your life insurance coverage.

If you’ve recently experienced an increase in income and are interested in a quick coverage check, feel free to contact me. We would be happy to review your current policy and help determine whether any adjustments make sense for your situation.
