We graciously thank those of you who have donated, shared our plight, offered prayers and encouragement during this trying time. Update on Lola
Last night shortly after surgery began the surgeon called me.
My heart dropped…he told me that he would only call before surgery was over if there were complications or more findings.
Lola’s spleen was covered in nodules. This could be two things, it could be her spleen working in overtime to create more RBCs because of the massive loss of blood over the weeks causing severe anemia, or cancer (the more likely cause). He recommended the full removal to send off to test and of course to get rid of it if it is in fact cancer.
I know I’m asking for a lot of prayers but please continue to pray. Testing of the spleen will tell us if it’s the source of the cancer or merely an innocent bystander. If it is the main source odds are that the cancer has already spread to her entire GI tract.
In addition, the removal of the spleen comes with some pretty serious risks.
The Surgeon called last night after the surgery and aside from a transfusion to help replenish protein and red blood cells she did good. He told me that no news was good news and if I didn’t hear from him until 8:30ish this morning that’s a good thing.
I clutched my phone tight all night and haven’t received a call.
Keep praying. The recovery from this is not easy or quick and once the testing is done we then have a road ahead of us in treatment.
