True or False: Your house is an asset. 🏠

The answer isn't as straightforward as it seems.

We often talk to high-net-worth families who have incredible financial momentum, but realize they’re uncertain of some of the foundational definitions of wealth management.

The good news: You don't need a degree in finance to build wealth—but you do need clarity to preserve and grow it.

In this video, Pierre dives into a question we get from prospective clients all the time: What is considered a "Household Asset"?

If you've ever felt like you're guessing at the fundamentals, this 1-minute video is for you.

Then, read about how to calculate your personal assets in our popular blog. Click the link in the comments.

Financial headlines are noisy. The data tells a different story.

If you only watched the news this spring, you might have expected the worst. We faced geopolitical tension, an energy shock, and a Federal Reserve signaling potential rate hikes.

Yet, the stock market shook off the volatility and finished the quarter near record highs.

Beneath the surface, three major shifts are driving this momentum:

🔹 The Oil Reversal: With oil prices back down, the biggest driver behind recent inflation is fading—completely shifting the conversation around interest rates.

🔹 The AI Boom: Tech giants are spending historic amounts of cash on AI infrastructure. Money is pouring directly into chips and data centers, driving a massive tech rally.

🔹 A Balanced Market: Instead of just a few tech giants carrying the load, the recent rally has finally spread to smaller and international companies.

While we still face open questions about inflation and the durability of the tech boom, the past few months have shown the power of a diversified portfolio and a long-term perspective.

We just published our complete market report breaking down these trends and what we’re watching as we head into the next quarter.

CNBC Select recently published an excellent piece featuring advice from certified financial planners outlining 5 essential money moves for new college graduates, covering everything from workplace benefits to managing student debt.

We asked our advisor, Pierre Soree, to share his perspective after reading it. His biggest piece of advice? Start thinking about financial planning early.

Here are the three building blocks Pierre recommends focusing on from day one of your career:

🌱 Automate early. Pay yourself first. Route a percentage of your very first paycheck straight into savings or a 401(k) before you even miss it.

🛡️ Build a foundation. Skip the "hot stocks" for now. Secure 3 to 6 months of living expenses in an emergency fund first.

⚖️ Balance your lifestyle. Living within your means isn’t about zero fun—it’s about balancing today’s happiness with tomorrow's financial freedom.

🗣️ Parents: Use this to spark a conversation at Sunday dinner.

🎓 Grads: Start small, stay disciplined, and watch your wealth grow.

We often talk to professionals who had put off meeting with an advisor because they think they need a mountain of paperwork just to get started.

In reality, a first meeting is just a low-pressure conversation to explore your financial planning journey. You can easily establish a high-quality baseline by compiling just 7 core items.

As our Co-Founder, Ben Crowe, puts it: "Bring what you can find, leave the stress behind, and let’s just have an open conversation."

Want to know exactly what those 7 items are? Check out our latest article to find out, and to download an easy to follow, printable one-page meeting prep checklist.

⚽ No single player wins the World Cup. Even the greatest superstars fail without a balanced roster, a rock-solid defense, and a world-class manager on the sidelines.

Winning retirement takes the exact same coordinated effort. Ask yourself: How does your financial "team" actually match up?

🏃 The Midfielders (Cash Flow & Income): Are your pay stubs and revenue streams automatically funding your 401(k), Roth IRAs, and HSAs efficiently to keep the ball moving?

🛡️ The Defense (Risk & Taxes): Do you have the right insurance policies and proactive tax planning to protect your assets from sudden, costly surprises?

🎯 The Striker (Growth Portfolio & ETFs): Your brokerage accounts and ETFs taking calculated shots at market growth. (A team of only strikers leaves your backline wide open).

📋 Who is managing your pitch? If your investments, tax strategies, and personal goals aren't actively talking to each other, you're just playing street-ball.
That’s where a fee-only fiduciary comes in. As our Managing Principal Scott Keller puts it:

“A lot of folks come to us with a collection of great independent financial pieces, but no actual coordination between them. It’s like drafting eleven star players who have never practiced together. We act as your coach bringing your tax strategy, risk protection, and investments into a single, unified formation so you can stop playing frantic defense and confidently win the long game."

Stop trying to act as your own head coach, forward, and goalkeeper all at once.

Our team enjoys supporting the local community we call home. Four of our team members recently spent a wonderful day volunteering at Mostly Mutts Market in Acworth, helping prepare clothing items for sale! Every purchase made at the market directly funds the saving, healing, and rehoming of unhoused dogs in need.

We encourage you to shop at thrift stores owned by non-profits like Mostly Mutts; your support provides vital funding that helps them continue their incredible work. Stop by the market to check out their items, give these goods a second life, and help keep them out of landfills!

A lot of people come to us thinking “fee-based” and “fee-only” are the same thing. It's one of the most common misunderstandings in financial planning.

Here’s what we tell them:
~ Fee-based advisors can charge a planning fee… but they can also earn commissions for recommending certain products. Fee based structure means some compensation may come from product recommendations, which is a factor worth understanding when evaluating any adviser.

~ Fee-only advisors don’t earn commissions at all on products. Marietta Wealth is Fee-only. Our compensation comes solely from a percentage of the assets we manage for you.

Being Fee-Only aligns our advice with you, fully focused on your objectives -- not on selling any particular product.

Getting into the market is the easy part. Staying on course is where the real work begins. 📊

Our Managing Principal, Scott Keller, recently reviewed NerdWallet’s updated guide on "How to Start Investing in Stocks."

He shared that it was a fantastic foundational primer on the mechanics of opening an account and choosing diversified ETF. Scott said, “From an advisory lens, there is a distinct difference between buying stocks and managing wealth. The basics get you in the game, but a comprehensive strategy is what helps your portfolio grow.”

As your net worth increases, Scott recommends shifting your focus to three critical areas for consideration:

1. Strategic Coordination: How do your investments interact with your tax strategy, estate plan, and business cash flow? True diversification is about coordination, not just collection.

2. Behavioral Discipline: The mechanics of investing are simple. Maintaining emotional discipline during a market correction is the hard part—and where a financial services partner can add a lot of value.

3. Time Optimization: At a certain point, the DIY approach can stop saving you money, costs you valuable time, and possibly missed opportunities.
Still managing it all yourself? Check out our recent blog post to explore the hidden costs of DIY Financial Planning: https://www.mariettawealth.com/diy-financial-planning-the-hidden-cost-to-managing-yourself/
