As a physician, do you know where to start when planning your financial future?

Between years of training, a later start on earning, and a busy schedule, many doctors put their own finances on hold. Here's where we help physicians focus:

-> Managing student loans and other debt early
-> Investing consistently, even with a demanding schedule
-> Planning for retirement on a timeline that fits a later career start
-> Reviewing whether your insurance coverage fits your situation
-> Building a personalized strategy with a wealth advisor who understands physician life

These are the planning decisions we work through with physicians.

Every physician's situation is different. This is general information, not personalized advice.

Retirement on Long Island can be costly.

Property taxes don't stop when you retire, healthcare costs change, and the lifestyle you've spent decades building doesn't just get cheaper.

If you want to move past rough estimates and start looking at what your actual expenses might look like, we put together a worksheet to help you map it out: https://go.myinvestmentinsight.com/free-retirement-income-worksheet

This worksheet is for educational purposes only and is not a substitute for personalized financial advice.

Receiving an inheritance can bring up more questions than you'd expect, often at a time when you're also grieving.

There's usually no need to rush. Taxes, account types, and how the money fits into your own plan all deserve some thought before big decisions get made. Inherited retirement accounts, for example, come with their own withdrawal rules that have changed in recent years, and moving too quickly can create a tax bill that was avoidable.

Giving yourself time and a plan can help you make the most of an inheritance for your family.

If you want to help pay for a grandchild's education, a 529 plan can be an effective tool.

You can open one yourself and stay in control of the money, deciding when and how much comes out. The savings grow tax-deferred year to year, and withdrawals for qualified school costs can be a tax-efficient way to save.

You also keep your flexibility. If plans shift or one grandchild doesn't need the full amount, a 529 can often be redirected to another eligible family member (IRS rules apply). Contributing a bit at a time can fit neatly into your broader estate and gifting plans.

529 investments can lose value, and withdrawals not used for qualified expenses are generally subject to income tax plus a 10% federal penalty on the earnings.

For a grandparent, it's a chance to leave a mark on a life that lasts well beyond any single tuition bill.

Scattered accounts are common, but they can make it harder to see where you stand. When your money lives in 5 different places, it's tough to know if you're diversified, what you're paying in fees, or whether your investments still match your goals.

Bringing accounts together can give you a clearer view and often simplifies decisions as you approach retirement. Consolidating isn't right for everyone, though. An old 401(k) may carry protections or pricing you'd give up by moving it, so the trade-offs are worth reviewing first. It's a common situation we help clients sort through.

If you own a business, your retirement picture looks different than most.

Youโ€™re not just winding down a 401(k). You may have a business interest to transition, self-employment income to replace, and tax-advantaged accounts with different rules depending on how theyโ€™re set up.

We put together a free worksheet specifically for people with more moving parts. It walks you through expenses, assets, Social Security timing, and the gaps that tend to catch people off guard.

The worksheet is educational and not a substitute for personalized advice. Every business ownerโ€™s situation is different; consult a qualified professional regarding your specific tax and planning needs.

โ€œWhat percent of your clients are physicians?โ€

Thatโ€™s a question we hear a lot, and itโ€™s a good one!

Working with a financial advisor who understands the nuances of physician life can make a difference. Delayed income, student loans, and disability insurance considerations arenโ€™t generic financial planning topics. They benefit from someone who has worked through them before and understands what matters at each stage of your career.

At Investment Insight Wealth Management, we work with physicians and healthcare professionals across Long Island who want clear guidance without the noise.

Every physicianโ€™s situation is different; results depend on individual circumstances. This is general information, not personalized advice, and is not intended as tax or legal advice.

Retirement planning typically focuses on the numbers, but one of the hardest aspects for many people isn't the financial change, it's the identity shift.

What often helps:

Start building parts of your post-retirement life before you retire. Volunteer one morning a week, join a board, pick up a hobby, or reconnect with people outside of work.

A financial plan can help guide your path to retirement, though outcomes depend on many factors. People often adjust best when they've spent time experimenting with what their life might look like on the other side.

Don't wait until you're retired to figure out what comes next.

This is general information, not personalized advice. Every retirement looks different.

Your estate plan probably covers your home, your investments, and who inherits what when youโ€™re gone.

But what about your email accounts, online banking passwords, the photos stored in the cloud, or the subscriptions that auto-renew every month?

Digital assets are increasingly important to consider as part of a complete estate plan. Including them can help reduce complications for your family later.
