Never stop learning.

When I earned my CFP® certification back in 2016, I promised myself I’d never get too “comfortable.”

Because tax laws change. Markets shift. And clients’ lives evolve.

At the beginning of this year, I enrolled in the Tax Planning Certified Professional (TPCP®) program through The American College of Financial Services—to take my understanding of taxes in retirement to the next level.

On October 29th, I passed my second of three courses (TPCP 102: Tax Planning in Retirement) after taking my exam at the South Texas College Student Assessment Center in McAllen!

This program is teaching me how to better navigate real-world tax challenges—like Roth conversions, estate strategies, and coordinating Social Security with IRA distributions—to help families keep more of what they’ve worked for.

Always learning. Always improving. Always grateful. 🙏

Feeling incredibly proud! 🌟 Yesterday, I visited the McAllen High School football stadium with my son, Stallone. He's been chosen as a Super Star student from Pre-K 4! It's funny how life circles back. Back then, I was chasing touchdowns by snagging interceptions and taking it for six! Now, I'm cherishing moments like these. 🏈✨

Social Security's cost-of-living adjustments tell a story about inflation's ups and downs.

From 0% in 2016 to a peak of 8.7% in 2023, these annual COLA changes reflect the economic reality millions of retirees experience. The current forecast shows 2.7% for 2026, but we'll know for certain in October.

Unlike many tax rules that haven't kept pace with inflation, Social Security benefits have been automatically adjusted since 1975. It's a powerful example of what "adjusted for inflation" can mean in practice.

Confession Time…

Back when I was at UTPA (2004–2008), I used to be a little envious of friends at schools like UT-Austin or Texas A&M. They had football Saturdays. They had big alumni weekends. They had traditions I wished we had, too.

After graduating, that envy continued as I’d see colleagues stay connected through their alumni associations, tailgates, and football games.

But now, I don’t have to be envious anymore!

On August 30th, Saleena and I were part of history at the inaugural UTRGV Vaqueros football game 🏈. Shortly after, I had the privilege of participating in the very first UTRGV Alumni Advisory Council meeting. Our goal is to strengthen alumni engagement and create new traditions together.

If you graduated from UTPA or UTB, you’re part of the UTRGV family. Don’t miss out — update your profile, check out the Alumni Pavilion, and follow along here:

This summer, I had the pleasure of welcoming Mario Hernandez 🌟 into our office as an intern. Mario reached out to me all the way from UT Austin’s McCombs School of Business 🎓, where he’s a junior and a proud Donna, Texas native. He was eager to learn about the financial advisory world 💼 and spent his summer with us at RGV Wealth Management.

Mario showed incredible initiative just by picking up the phone and calling me 📞, and he brought that same drive to everything he did here—whether it was sitting in on meetings, helping with projects, or even cutting grass to earn a few extra bucks 🌱💪. He’s a bright, respectful, and hardworking young man, and I have no doubt he’ll go far 🚀.

As he heads back to Austin to continue his studies, I just want to wish him all the best 🙌. Maybe one day we’ll see him back here at RGV Wealth Management as a full-fledged advisor! 👔✨

"Some conferences give you ideas. This one gave me the tools to transform my practice."

Just got back from LPL’s annual “Focus” conference in San Diego — and I’m inspired.

When I made the decision last year to become an independent advisor and partner with LPL Financial to safeguard my clients’ hard-earned assets, I knew it was the right move. This week confirmed that in a big way — and then some.

From day one, LPL has been about one thing: helping advisors like me serve our clients better. At this year’s conference, that commitment was on full display. I saw firsthand how LPL is investing in new capabilities — from faster, more seamless money movement tools, to enhanced investment platforms and integrated technology — all designed to make the client experience smoother, faster, and more personal.

While I was away for most of the week, my practice didn’t skip a beat. Calls were answered, appointments booked, and clients taken care of — thanks to the systems and resources I now have at my fingertips.

One of the highlights? Touring LPL’s San Diego home office and meeting incredible people behind the scenes. A special thank-you to Ziyad for being such a gracious host.

I’m returning to the Rio Grande Valley with new tools, fresh ideas, and a renewed excitement to deliver the first-class service my clients deserve.

🎒 TEACHERS & SCHOOL ADMIN — This Post is for YOU! 🚨

Back-to-school season is almost here — and that means you’ll start seeing all kinds of vendors at your district’s upcoming events and convocation days. This post is here to help you navigate one of the most confusing parts of your benefits: the 403(b) retirement plan.

👀 I used to attend these events myself in my previous life as a rep — and let me tell you: I saw all types of vendors who were technically “approved” to offer 403(b) services. That doesn’t mean they were all created equal.

Let’s be real for a second...

👉 The 403(b) marketplace is like the Wild, Wild West.

Unlike the 401(k) world in the private sector — where employers choose ONE provider with multiple investment options and have a fiduciary obligation to their employees — the 403(b) space doesn’t work that way.

❌ No vetting of who offers the best products
❌ No help narrowing down your options
❌ No built-in guidance

And to be fair — I don’t blame the school districts. They’re already doing amazing work with limited budgets trying to educate our RGV students. They’re not retirement experts.

So here’s something you CAN do:

🔍 Ask your HR, Benefits Office, or Business Office who your district’s Third Party Administrator (TPA) is. Then visit that TPA’s website to look up your approved 403(b) vendors.

📌 For example:
– PSJA ISD → David K. Young Consulting
– McAllen ISD → TCG Consulting Group
– Mission CISD → U.S. OMNI & TSACG Compliance Services

💡 Why does this matter?

Because you’ll walk into those events KNOWING who you’re talking to — and whether their company is even approved by your plan. Most of the time, you’ll see fixed annuity or fixed indexed annuity providers. Sometimes variable annuities. Rarely mutual fund-based 403(b) options.

Each of these has pros and cons — but the right one depends on your goals, the fees, and how much flexibility you want.

📣 So don’t be shy. Do a little homework. Ask questions. Be vigilant. Because what you sign up for today could impact your retirement tomorrow.

“Why I Don’t Guarantee Returns — But I Do Guarantee This”

As a financial advisor, I’m legally not allowed to guarantee returns — and that’s a good thing.

But here's what I can guarantee:

- I’ll give you my full attention, not a cookie-cutter plan

- I’ll tell you the truth, even when it's uncomfortable

- I’ll stick with you through the ups, downs, and in-betweens

- I’ll help you stay focused when distractions and doubt creep in

Good planning isn’t about magic numbers or perfect timing. It’s about showing up consistently — with the right tools, mindset, and guidance.

Returns can’t be promised. But service, accountability, and clarity? That’s the foundation I build my practice on.

👉 Wondering what most people ask before hiring a financial advisor? Here are some of the top FAQs I get:

We know choosing a financial advisor is a big decision. Whether you're planning for retirement, or simply want to feel more confident about your finances, it's normal to have questions. Below are some of the most common ones we hear from prospective clients. If you don’t see your question here, fe...
