If you haven't filed your tax return for 2019, you can do so and claim a refund up to July 17, 2023. This will include the Earned Income Credit. File before this date to get your refund.

New for 2022...Pennsylvania has a new credit this year. It's the Pennsylvania Child and Dependent Care Enhancement Tax Credit. It's a credit for child and dependent care expenses paid. In order to receive it, you must have claimed the dependent care expenses on your federal tax return.

It's that time of year. W-2s and 1099s are arriving. So many options. Many of you will have to decide whether to have a professional tax preparer complete your return or do it yourself.

If you decide to use Tax Act or Turbotax don't forget to complete your state and local returns as well and save a copy for your records.

As professional preparers, we can't tell you how many calls we receive from taxpayers who believed the IRS would take care of their state and local returns.

And another tax season begins...

The Internal Revenue Service today announced Monday, January 23, 2023, as the beginning of the nation's 2023 tax season when the agency will begin accepting and processing 2022 tax year returns.

The IRS released the standard mileage rate for 2023. Beginning January 1, 2023 the following rates will be in effect.

Business - 65.5 cents a mile (self employed only)

Medical / Moving - 22 cents a mile

Charities - 14 cents a mile (while driving in service of a charity)

If you sold items online (Ebay, Marketplace, Poshmark, etc.) you might receive a 1099-K. If you used cash app sites like Venmo, you also might receive one. If you do, save it for your tax preparer.
