Tax Season Is Around the Corner — Now Is the Time to Get Prepared
As we head into a new year, tax season will be here before you know it. A little preparation now can save you time, stress, and last-minute scrambling later.
Start by gathering and organizing key documents, including last year’s tax return and any receipts related to deductible expenses or charitable contributions. Staying organized early makes the filing process smoother and more accurate.
Be on the lookout in January and early February for important income documents, such as:
• W-2 forms from employers
• 1099-NEC or 1099-MISC forms for income from self-employment, gig work, rental income, or royalties
• 1099-INT and 1099-DIV forms showing interest, dividends, or other investment income
You may also receive additional documents that are required for filing, including:
• Form 1095-A (Health Insurance Marketplace Statement)
• Form 1098-T (Tuition Statement)
Lastly, remember that the IRS requires you to report any involvement with digital assets, including cryptocurrency. If you had crypto transactions during the year, be sure to keep complete and accurate records so everything is reported correctly.
Preparing now puts you ahead of the game — and makes tax season much easier when it’s time to file.
