Weekly Market Update β€” Week Ended 8/7/26 πŸ“ˆπŸš€

What a week. Stocks rocketed higher across the board β€” the biggest weekly rally we've seen in months. The S&P 500 jumped 3.5%, the Nasdaq surged 5%, and even the small companies (which had been struggling) led the way with a 3.5% gain.

What drove it? Two things happened simultaneously: (1) The U.S. economy actually LOST 23,000 jobs in July (much worse than expected), which made people think the Fed will cut interest rates sooner. (2) Oil prices collapsed 11% on more "peace deal" rumors regarding Iran.

Gold and silver had monster weeks too β€” gold jumped 7.4% and silver soared nearly 10%.

But here's the concern: this rally was built on hopes, not on things actually improving. Nothing has really changed with Iran on the ground. And if oil prices spike back up, this whole rally could reverse just as fast.

Coming up: July inflation data (CPI on Wednesday, PPI on Thursday) β€” the first big test of whether cooling prices are for real.

A friendly reminder: Weeks like this β€” where markets can move violently in either direction based on headlines β€” are exactly why the vast majority of your money should sit in a long-term core plan built around your goals β€” like our Lifetime Income Model. Save the short-term maneuvering for smaller trading or hedging accounts. Structure beats guessing every time. 🎯

Weekly Market Update β€” Week Ended 7/31/26 πŸ“ˆπŸ“‰

What a week. The Dow lost 1,100 points on Wednesday (its worst day in over a year) after the Federal Reserve held interest rates steady but three members openly disagreed and wanted a HIKE. Then on Thursday, the market roared back β€” thanks almost entirely to blockbuster earnings from Microsoft and Amazon.

Meanwhile, South Korea's stock market had its worst month in HISTORY β€” down over 33% in July β€” as AI-related bets unwound violently. That's worse than 1997. Worse than 2008. And it happened in one month.

Here at home, the 30-year U.S. Treasury bond yield hit its highest level since 2007. Translation: big money is worried about long-term inflation and government finances.

Coming up: July's jobs report on Friday plus more major earnings.

A friendly reminder: Weeks like this β€” where the market drops 1,100 points one day and rockets back the next β€” are exactly why the vast majority of your money should sit in a long-term core plan built around your goals β€” like our Lifetime Income Model. Weekly Market Update β€” Week Ended 7/24/26 πŸ“ˆπŸ“‰

A tough week where the surface losses masked a lot of noise underneath.

The big story: Tesla and Google reported earnings β€” and both got hit hard. Tesla dropped 14% (its worst day in over a year). Meanwhile, oil kept climbing on the Iran/US conflict β€” West Texas crude jumped another 10.6% to over $90 a barrel on top of last week's big surge.

Here's the interesting part: gold and silver actually WENT UP this week β€” which normally shouldn't happen when the dollar is rising and interest rates are climbing. When precious metals defy those forces, it usually means big money is quietly hedging against something bigger down the road.

Big week ahead: The Fed meets Tuesday and Wednesday, and Microsoft, Meta, Apple, and Amazon all report earnings.

A friendly reminder: Weeks like this are exactly why the vast majority of your money should sit in a long-term core plan built around your goals β€” like our Lifetime Income Model. Save the short-term maneuvering for smaller trading or hedging accounts. Structure and planning beat guessing every time. πŸ‘€

Mid-Week Update: Wall Street Is Getting Whipsawed πŸ“ˆπŸ“‰

Remember the warnings from our weekend report? They're all playing out this week.

Iran and the US are now nine straight days into an active shooting exchange. Yemen's Houthi militants announced a blockade of Saudi Arabia. Oil (Brent crude) is above $89 a barrel and rising. The Iranian president publicly declared "full-scale war."

And yet… stocks bounced Tuesday. Why? Corporate earnings are coming in strong β€” nearly 9 out of 10 major companies reporting have beat expectations, with names like 3M and GM jumping big.

But here's the caution flag: Jamie Dimon (JPMorgan's CEO) publicly warned this week against buying long-term US Treasury bonds β€” a subtle but important signal that big money sees inflation trouble ahead.

Big earnings from Google, Tesla, and Intel this week will tell us more.

Bottom line: this is not a market to chase. Stay diversified. πŸ‘€

Weekly Market Snapshot β€” Week Ended 7/17/26 πŸ“Š

Rough week for stocks. The Nasdaq dropped over 4% as the AI and chip stocks kept tumbling. The Dow and S&P also fell, though smaller companies held up a bit better β€” which might be a sign of things shifting.

The big story: Iran closed the Strait of Hormuz β€” the waterway that handles about 20% of the world's oil. Crude oil jumped 14% on the week to about $82 a barrel. That sounds like a lot, but honestly, it should have been more. Someone appears to be working hard to keep oil prices in check.

Meanwhile, big banks like JPMorgan and Goldman Sachs had record-breaking quarters β€” but only because all the chaos gave them lots to trade on. That's not exactly a healthy sign.

This coming week: Earnings from Tesla, Google, Intel and others will tell us more.

Stay alert out there. πŸ‘€

πŸ“Š Weekly Market Read β€” Week Ended July 10

Quiet on the surface, all divergence underneath. Last week in a nutshell:
πŸ“ˆ US Stocks: Large-cap tech held the S&P and Nasdaq up (Meta alone popped ~15%), while the Dow slipped and small caps fell nearly 1% β€” and lagging small caps are historically an early warning about the real economy.
πŸ›’οΈ Oil: The big tell. Trump called the US/Iran ceasefire "over," ordered fresh strikes, and revoked the Iranian oil license β€” yet crude rose less than 4% and never got near the $90s. When that much escalation can't lift oil, somebody with deep pockets is leaning on the market.
πŸ€– AI / Tech: Increasingly funding itself through public markets rather than real profits β€” worth keeping an eye on.
πŸ“Š Bonds: Sold off across the curve.
πŸ₯‡ Metals: Bled on a stronger dollar (silver hit harder than gold).
β‚Ώ Bitcoin: Bucked the trend, +2.5%.

This week is a big one:
🏦 Q2 earnings season kicks off with the major banks, then ASML, TSMC and Netflix for a real read on AI
πŸ“† June CPI Tuesday β€” the same day new Fed Chair Warsh gives his first testimony to Congress β€” with PPI Wednesday

But here's what I want our clients to hear... Weeks like this don't determine your retirement. We use our Lifetime Income Model to map your actual liquidity needs against longevity and sequence-of-returns risk β€” so you're not leaning on your equity investments during the stretch when a downturn would sting most. That structure is exactly what lets you ride out any market storm without reacting to headlines.

Client: "Should I sell now or wait?"
Me: "What's your reason for selling?"
Client: "The market feels high."
Me: "When did you buy?"
Client: "2020."
Me: "So you've already lived through a pandemic crash, recovery, inflation spike, rate hikes, and multiple corrections."
Client: "Yeah."
Me: "And you held through all of it."
Client: "Yeah."
Me: "So why sell now because it 'feels high'?"
Client: "..."
Me: "Let me ask differently. If you sell, what's your plan for when to buy back in?"
Client: "When things settle down."
Me: "When was the last time things felt 'settled' before you bought?"
Client: "Never."
Me: "Exactly."

The hardest part of long-term investing isn't buying. It's not selling when your emotions tell you to.

Your tax bill just told you what happened last year.
Your investment strategy should tell you what happens next year.
Most people confuse the two.
One is history. One is planning.
Which one are you focused on?

A business owner came in last week. Successful company. Planning to exit in 3-5 years.
He had a great CPA. He had a great wealth advisor.
They had never spoken to each other.

The cost?

His advisor recommended a $50K retirement contribution in Q4 to save on taxes.
His CPA had already projected him into a lower bracket because of business write-offs the advisor didn't know about.
The contribution saved less than expected. And it locked up capital he needed for a January business opportunity.

This happens more often than it should:

β†’ Advisors rebalance portfolios without checking tax implications with the CPA β†’ CPAs recommend strategies without coordinating with investment plans β†’ Clients end up paying more tax or missing opportunities

You're left coordinating between professionals who should be working together.
At KSDT, coordination is built in.
Our wealth management team works in the same building as a 40-year CPA firm.

When we build your investment strategy, your CPA is already part of the conversation. When your CPA plans your taxes, we're already coordinating the approach.

Your professionals communicate regularly because they work 20 feet apart.
Want to see integrated wealth and tax planning in action?

Let's talk: https://calendly.com/tim-thielen-ksdtwm/30min?month=2026-05&fbclid=IwY2xjawRp979leHRuA2FlbQIxMABicmlkETF0SE53RlhiWGVzOTJnNXMwc3J0YwZhcHBfaWQQMjIyMDM5MTc4ODIwMDg5MgABHqc1UckNrE10MiLcXHXxYHfnJIWePfvrejQ3qqkkT6efvPOI9EZddjMPc9O0_aem_BfUhFFYF2mgoS9PAn7W8cQ&utm_id=97758_v0_s00_e0_tv2_a1demo0chl58dn

April 15 is soon.
For most people, that means scrambling to file taxes.
For high-net-worth families, it should mean something different: the start of next year's tax planning.

Here's what sophisticated investors do on April 16:

They don't celebrate that their taxes are done. They schedule a meeting with their CPA and wealth advisor to plan for 2027.
Because the tax strategies that save you the most money require 12 months of advance planning.

β†’ Tax-loss harvesting throughout the year (not just in December)
β†’ Roth conversions timed strategically around income fluctuations
β†’ Charitable giving coordinated with capital gains events
β†’ Asset location optimized across taxable and tax-advantaged accounts
β†’ Business structure decisions made before they impact your return

By the time you file your 2026 taxes next year, it's too late to change most of your tax bill.
The decisions you make between now and December 31 will determine what you owe.

Here's the April 16 checklist for high earners:

Review your 2025 tax return with both your CPA and wealth advisor
Identify what drove your tax bill higher than expected
Build a proactive strategy to minimize 2026 taxes
Schedule quarterly check-ins to adjust as your situation changes

Most people treat taxes as an annual event.
Successful wealth builders treat it as a year-round strategy.

Which approach are you taking?
