I am not your typical CPA, and I hope you won't be disappointed to discover there is no pocket protector anywhere in my building! I have helped reduce thousands of dollars in penalties and interest for several clients, reduced an estate tax liability by thousands of dollars, and restored peace of mind to clients who have fallen years behind in their tax filings by getting them caught up. Although

I cannot guarantee any specific result for future clients, I will work diligently to find the best outcome for your tax issue. Throughout my career, I have attempted to find a niche, such as estates/trusts, IRAs, and then tax resolution, but not until I was introduced to cannabis accounting did I get excited about accounting all over again! I have been specially trained on many of the major cannabis tax court cases regarding 280E and IRC 471 and understand what's required of you as a cannabis-related business owner to stay compliant with all applicable laws and regulations. Additionally, I can help you optimize your cannabis bookkeeping in order to maximum your profits. And, I can provide valuable insights into your business finances, which can help you make informed decisions about your business. Ultimately, you can save time, money and headaches down the road. I can even represent you if you are ever audited. My mission is to help cannabis business owners sleep at night knowing they are audit ready. If you never filed your 2022 tax return but were due a refund … that money is still sitting there.

But not for long.

IRS gives you 3 years to claim a refund.

Deadline = April 15, 2026

Miss it and the IRS keeps your money.

No reminders. No extensions. Gone.

Here’s where people get it wrong:

“I didn’t owe, so I don’t need to file.”

Not true.

No return filed = no refund issued

The IRS does not send it automatically.

Simple next steps:

✔️ Find your 2022 W-2s and 1099s
✔️ Missing forms? Pull IRS transcripts

One more thing to think about:

If 2022 isn’t filed, there’s a good chance 2023 or 2024 refunds are sitting there too.

That’s your money. Not theirs.

Don’t let missing the deadline make the decision for you.

"I thought the extension covered the payment too...."

Nope.

An extension gives you more time to file a complete and accurate income tax return. It does not, however, give you more time to pay.

The IRS still wants their money by April 15.

If you're not sure what to send in:

âś… Don't guess
âś… Don't ignore it
âś… Pay something

If you're not sure what to send in, ask before the deadline.

Handle the payment now.

Clean up the return later.

Tax season is almost over… but here comes the plot twist.

Every April I hear this:

“I filed an extension, so I don’t have to pay yet… right?”

Nope. Not even a little.

Here’s how it actually works:

• An extension gives you more time to FILE
• It does NOT give you more time to PAY

The IRS still expects you to pay at least 90% of what you owe by April 15

If you don’t:

• Penalties start
• Interest starts
• And they don’t care that no one told you

⸻

Easy rule to follow:
• Pay what you owed last year
• Or get close to 90% of this year

Waiting until your return is done = expensive decision

⸻

And let’s clear this up:

Your accountant does not create penalties.
Late or low payments do.

⸻

If you’re not sure what to pay, ask before April 15.

A quick estimate now is a lot cheaper than a surprise later.

TOP 10 REASONS TO FILE A TAX EXTENSION

There is NO PENALTY for filing a tax extension. The IRS does not even require you to provide a particular reason for filing an extension -- they automatically give it to you upon request!

However, if you need a reason to make yourself feel better, please feel free to use one of the following:

1. Filing a tax extension is super easy.

2. Some people say filing an extension decreases your odds of being audited.

3. You just moved into a new house and you haven't unpacked yet.

4. There aren't enough hours in a day.

5. Your dog ate your tax papers.

6. You got married. You got divorced.

7. It's a long story, but ... what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.

8. Your birthday is in April.

9. You want to wait until your CPA has more time and doesn't have to rush.

10. You just hate doing your taxes.

NOTE: An extension gives you more time to FILE. It does NOT give you more time to PAY.

Dispensary owners often focus on increasing sales to improve margins.

Sales matter. But margin control usually matters more.

Here are ways a cannabis-focused CPA can help improve dispensary margins.

✔️ Proper inventory costing under 280E so more expenses are captured in cost of goods sold
✔️ Identifying low margin products that take up cash and shelf space
✔️ Tracking department profitability such as retail, delivery, or ancillary sales
✔️ Monitoring payroll percentages to keep staffing aligned with revenue
✔️ Reviewing vendor pricing and purchase timing to protect gross profit
✔️ Planning equipment and expansion decisions to manage tax impact
✔️ Creating cash flow forecasts so owners avoid expensive short term financing

Strong margins are not created by accident. They come from clear numbers and disciplined financial decisions.

In a high tax industry like cannabis, small improvements in margin can mean the difference between growth and constant financial pressure.

Many clients tell me they stayed with the same tax service for years because it felt easier than making a change.

Then something happens.

✔️ A large unexpected tax bill.
✔️ A business decision they were unsure about.
✔️ A notice they did not understand.

Working with a CPA should feel like having a financial partner, not just someone who files forms once a year.

If you are ready for more guidance and fewer surprises, it may be time for a different approach.
