This is exciting news for future CPAs in Louisiana.

I’ve talked to a lot of people over the years who were interested in becoming a CPA but felt like they had missed their chance because they didn’t go the traditional 150-hour route. This new pathway gives those individuals another option.

I also hope this encourages students who are just starting college and trying to decide on a career path. I’ve heard more than a few students say they were interested in accounting, but the thought of five years of college pushed them in a different direction. This new pathway may make the profession a more realistic option for those students.

The CPA license is still a challenging and respected credential. Candidates still have to meet education requirements, pass the CPA Exam, and gain qualifying experience. But this change removes a barrier that has discouraged many talented people from pursuing the profession.

If you’ve ever thought about becoming a CPA—or if you’re a student considering accounting as a career—it may be worth taking another look.

Our profession needs good people, and I’m glad to see Louisiana creating more opportunities for the next generation of CPAs.

Resident trust funds (RPFA) rarely get an Administrator’s attention — until something goes wrong.

In Louisiana, Medicaid audits always include a full review of the RPFA. Weak internal controls can lead to audit findings, fines, and in worst-case situations, criminal charges.
