DFDA™ College Money Alert #1

🚨 CLASS OF 2027: This scholarship can provide up to $55,000 PER YEAR toward college.

Parents and seniors, this is NOT one I would wait until November to start thinking about.

The Jack Kent Cooke College Scholarship Program opens August 19, 2026, and it is designed for high-achieving high-school seniors with demonstrated financial need who plan to attend a four-year college.

💰 Up to $55,000 per year
📅 Opens: August 19, 2026
⏰ Deadline: November 11, 2026
🎓 Minimum unweighted GPA: 3.75
💵 Family income generally considered up to $95,000
📝 Applicants must submit an SAT, ACT, AP, or IB score
📲 Application is completed through the Common App

Now here's the part I want families to pay attention to…

Do NOT wait until the application opens to start getting ready.

Use this weekend to begin gathering:

✅ Your activity and leadership history
✅ Academic records
✅ Financial information
✅ Potential teacher recommenders
✅ Counselor contact information

Because when scholarship season gets busy, being prepared is what keeps opportunities from slipping through the cracks.

Remember, finding the scholarship is only one part of the process. Keeping the deadlines, requirements, documents, recommendations, and next steps organized is where families can get overwhelmed.

That’s why we created the ScholarPath360™ Command Center inside Debt-Free Degree Academy™.

This Cooke Scholarship is one of the opportunities you can track while keeping your college-money resources and application process organized in one place.

Because knowing about the money is good.

Having a system to go after it is better.

Parents, SAVE this post.
Seniors, SHARE it with somebody in the Class of 2027.

And FOLLOW Debt-Free Degree Academy™ because we’re going to keep putting the college money opportunities, deadlines, and strategies in front of you.

🚨 THE $20,000 COCA-COLA SCHOLARS PROGRAM SCHOLARSHIP IS NOW OPEN!

Parents and Class of 2027 seniors, this is one scholarship opportunity you do not want to scroll past and forget about.

The Coca-Cola Scholars Program will select 150 outstanding high-school seniors to receive a $20,000 college scholarship.

This is an achievement-based scholarship created for students who have demonstrated strong academics, leadership, service, and a commitment to making an impact in their schools and communities.

HERE’S WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

🎓 Scholarship Award: $20,000
🏆 Number of Recipients: 150 students
📅 Application Opened: August 3, 2026
⏰ Deadline: September 30, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. Eastern
📚 Minimum GPA: Overall B average or 3.0 GPA
👩🏽‍🎓 Eligible Class: Students graduating during the 2026–2027 academic year
🏠 Homeschooled Students: Eligible when all other requirements are met

And here is something important:

The first phase does not require an essay, transcript, or recommendation letter.

Do not allow the lack of an essay to make your student treat this application casually. The Coca-Cola Scholars Program is extremely competitive. Students should clearly and accurately document their leadership, school activities, community service, employment, honors, and the impact they have made.

This is not a need-based scholarship. Students are evaluated primarily on their leadership, academics, service, and community impact.

The Coca-Cola Scholars opportunity has also been added to the ScholarPath360™ Command Center, where our students can organize scholarship opportunities, requirements, deadlines, and application progress in one central location.

Parents, do not simply send this post to your senior and assume it will get done. Sit down, review the requirements, and help them build a plan to submit a complete and competitive application well before the deadline.

A scholarship can change the cost of college, but only when your student actually applies.

Save this post, share it with a Class of 2027 family, and tag a senior who needs to apply.

🚨 FAFSA TIP PARENTS NEED TO KNOW

You should never hide assets on the FAFSA, but you also should not report assets the FAFSA does not require.

Some families mistakenly include things like:
• The value of their primary home
• Retirement accounts
• Life insurance
• Personal property

Overreporting could reduce a student’s eligibility for need-based financial aid.

But be careful. FAFSA rules change, and some business, farm, investment, and savings assets may still need to be reported. Following outdated advice from social media could cost your family money or create problems later.

The goal is simple:
Do not guess. Do not hide. Do not overreport. File accurately.

We will be teaching families exactly how to understand FAFSA income and asset questions during our FAFSA sessions inside the Debt-Free Degree Academy.

Have you ever worried that you might complete the FAFSA incorrectly? Drop FAFSA in the comments.

Let me tell you something I wish more students and parents understood.

A perfect GPA does not automatically equal scholarship money.

Yes, strong grades matter. Test scores can help too. But there are thousands of students applying for scholarships with impressive GPAs, honors classes, dual enrollment credits, and long lists of academic achievements.

So, what makes one student stand out from everybody else?

Their story.

Their impact.

Their leadership.

Their ability to show how they have used what they have been given to help somebody besides themselves.

I learned this firsthand while helping my own daughter through the scholarship process. Her grades opened doors, but her story, her service, her leadership, and the way she communicated her purpose helped her walk through those doors.

Scholarship committees want to know more than what is printed on your transcript.

They want to know:

How have you served your community?

What problem have you helped solve?

Who have you encouraged, supported, mentored, or inspired?

What leadership roles have you taken on, even when nobody gave you an official title?

How will you use your education to make a difference?

And let’s talk about the essay, because this is where many students miss it.

Your entire essay cannot be about how hard you worked, how good your grades are, and why you deserve the money.

Most of the students applying have worked hard.

The winning essay helps the committee understand who you are, what shaped you, what you have already done, and what you plan to do next.

After working with students and going through this journey with my own daughter, I can tell you this with confidence:

The biggest scholarship winners are not always the students with the highest GPAs.

They are often the students with the clearest purpose, the strongest story, meaningful experiences, and a proven commitment to making an impact.

Grades may get their attention.

Your story makes them remember you.

Parents and students, what are you doing right now to build a scholarship story that goes beyond the GPA?

Drop “STORY” in the comments if you want me to share what scholarship committees are really looking for.

🎓 Full ride. National scholarship. Life-changing opportunity.

This is one of those scholarships families cannot afford to ignore.

The Gates Scholarship is officially OPEN, and this is not just another small scholarship check.

This is a highly selective, last-dollar scholarship designed for outstanding high school seniors from low-income households.

It can help cover the full cost of attendance that is not already covered by other financial aid and the Student Aid Index, including tuition, fees, books, housing, food, transportation, and possible additional personal costs.

I know firsthand how powerful this opportunity is because Zoe' was awarded The Gates Scholarship.

That is why this scholarship has been added inside the ScholarPath360 Command Center for students who qualify.

Because finding the scholarship is one thing.

Being organized enough to compete for it is another.

ScholarPath360 helps students and families track eligibility, deadlines, documents, essays, recommendations, financial aid steps, and application progress all in one place.

📌 Deadline: September 15, 2026
📌 Status: Open
📌 For high-achieving, Pell-eligible high school seniors
📌 Minimum weighted GPA: 3.3 on a 4.0 scale
📌 Must plan to enroll full-time in a four-year degree program

Parents, students, counselors, mentors, and community leaders, share this with a student who needs to know that a debt-free degree is possible with the right preparation.

Most students don’t miss scholarships because they are not qualified.

They miss scholarships because they are not organized, they do not know what to prepare, and they wait too late to start.

These three scholarships alone represent up to $115,000 in potential funding:
🎓 Life On Purpose Scholarship — $40,000
🎓 GE-Reagan Foundation Scholarship — $40,000
🎓 VFW Voice of Democracy Competition — $35,000

Now imagine how many more opportunities students overlook simply because they do not have a system.

That is why ScholarPath360 matters.

ScholarPath360 helps students and families organize scholarship deadlines, required documents, essays, recommendation letters, video submissions, eligibility requirements, and application progress all in one place.

Because scholarship success is not just about finding money.

It is about being prepared when the opportunity shows up.

Parents, students, mentors, counselors, and educators — save this post and share it with a student who needs a better plan for funding college.

But where are they actually going? 👀

College Decision Day hits different 🎓

The posts, the letters, the excitement… I love every bit of it.

But I’m asking a different question today.

Not where they got in…

👉🏽 Where did they decide to go?

Because that decision?

That’s where strategy, money, and reality all meet.

I’m collecting real responses from real parents.
