Every advisor's definition of independence is different.

For one experienced wealth advisor managing $195 million in client assets, it wasn't about chasing a higher payout or building everything from scratch. It was about removing unnecessary barriers so they could spend more time doing what they do best: serving clients.

After operating in a highly structured environment, they wanted the flexibility of supported independence; keeping the infrastructure and resources needed to run an efficient practice, while gaining the freedom to make decisions on their own terms.

They were looking for a partner that offered a true plug-and-play transition experience, scalable support, and the ability to continue serving clients wherever they are. And with guidance from Frank and the Elite Consulting team, his vision became reality through a successful transition to Raymond James.

Congratulations to the advisor on this exciting new chapter. We're honored to help advisors find the business model that best aligns with their goals, their clients, and their future.

One year after LPL closed its $2.7 billion acquisition of Commonwealth Financial Network, the numbers are in: 654 advisors left.

That's roughly 22.5% of Commonwealth's headcount, gone in under a year. LPL is still on track to hit its 90% asset retention target, which tells you something important on its own: the firm can lose nearly a quarter of its advisors by headcount and still retain most of the assets, because it's often the advisors with the most independence-minded book who leave first.

Where did they go? 64% moved to other broker-dealers, 36% went the RIA route. Raymond James picked up the largest share. Kestra recruited close to 130 and has since been pulling recruiters directly out of LPL to keep the momentum going.

The advisors who left for very different reasons all describe a similar moment: the acquisition didn't create their desire for independence, it just gave them a deadline to act on something they were already feeling.

That's the pattern we see constantly. The deal isn't the cause. It's the trigger. If you're an advisor at a firm going through a merger or acquisition right now, the actual work is figuring out what you wanted before the deal was announced, not just reacting to the news.

Frank got a call from a client a few months after his move.

No hello. First words out of his mouth were, "You were not lying."

About what?

"You were not lying about how much more money I was going to make." Same production as his previous firm. 90 days in. Almost twice the income.

He wasn't just excited about the money. He was excited about the opportunities that were now opening up in front of him. Conversations about buying another practice. Growth possibilities that did not exist where he was before.

That is what the right move actually does. It does not just change your payout. It changes what is possible.

The math was always there. The opportunity was always there. What was missing was the decision.

If someone showed you a pro forma that demonstrated you could make nearly twice as much money doing the exact same production you are doing right now would that change your thinking?

Because that is exactly the conversation we have every single day. 👇

New data came out this week that should make every advisor stop and look at their service list. 68% of clients said they’d switch advisors for one who offers estate planning.

Not “would consider it.” Would switch.

Clients are walking in with more sophistication than they used to have, and estate planning has stopped being a nice to have. It’s now one of the things people actively shop for when they’re deciding whether to stay with their advisor or leave.

The advisors who are going to win the next 10 years of client relationships aren’t necessarily the ones with the best returns. Returns are hard to differentiate on anyway, most good advisors are in a similar range. The ones who win are the ones who built a practice that covers what the client’s actual life requires: the money, the family, the plan for what happens to both when they’re gone.

Does your firm allow you to handle estate planning? It might be time to move to one that does.

Less than 1% advisor retention like this doesn't happen by chance! It is a combination of culture, technology, advisor autonomy, and long-term alignment.

When advisors have the right resources & support, and feel confident in the ownership of their business, they're more likely to build lasting careers where they are.

The real question isn't whether one firm's retention number is better than another's.

It's whether your current partnership is built to support your long-term vision.

Every advisor should know what they're looking for in a long-term partnership. Do you?

At Elite Consulting Partners, we help advisors evaluate every opportunity objectively so every decision is based only on what fits your business, goals, and future.

If you're curious how your practice can achieve similar low attrition rates, send us a message today.

Every large enterprise and OSJ needs to hear this.

When an advisor joins your organization they are not just another number on your production report. They are your client. And you have to earn their business and their trust every single day.

We tell advisors this all the time when they are deciding whether to go direct or join a large enterprise. The question is not just what does the enterprise offer on paper. The question is will they show up for you the way you show up for your clients.

Your goals. Your vision. How you service your clients. The things that matter most to your practice. Those need to become the goals of the enterprise you join. Not the other way around.

And here is the message we want every large enterprise to sit with.

If you are not actively earning the trust and the business of the advisors who chose to join you then you are just like everybody else. The advisor picked you once. That does not mean they owe you their loyalty indefinitely. That loyalty has to be maintained. Reinforced. Deserved.

The best enterprises understand this. They treat their advisors as clients. They show up. They solve problems. They make the advisor feel like their practice matters.

The ones that do not lose their best people to organizations that will.

If you are an advisor in an enterprise right now, are they earning your business every single day? 👇

Do you see yourself as more than an advisor? As someone who wants to lead their own team, and build the future of a firm?

Some advisors find that they're passionate about more than just serving clients, and motivated by the opportunity to build a firm in their own vision.

Whether that means launching an independent RIA, joining a hybrid platform, or pursuing another model of independence, today's wealth management landscape offers more flexibility than ever before. The challenge isn't simply deciding whether to go independent—it's understanding which path best supports your vision, your clients, and your long-term goals.

If you've been thinking about taking the next step, let's talk. At Elite Consulting Partners, we help advisors explore the different models of independence, evaluate their options, and identify the path that best aligns with their goals.
