šŸŽ“ What a great day at Big Bend Community College!

Today I had the opportunity to meet students at the WAV event and introduce them to Money Mavericks—a fun, FREE way for young people to learn about money by practicing real-life financial decisions.

Students received a QR code they can scan to download the game and play Money Mavericks on their own. šŸ“±šŸŽ®

But my favorite part wasn't just introducing them to the game.

It was the conversations.

We talked about something that can make a HUGE difference in their future:

šŸ’° How can you graduate from college with little or no student loan debt?

There are choices students can make now that can impact their financial lives for years to come.

That’s one of the reasons I’m so passionate about teaching financial literacy to young people. We don't want them to have to learn about money through expensive mistakes. We want to give them opportunities to practice making financial decisions before the stakes are real.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by, joined the conversation, picked up a QR code, and entered our prize drawings—and congratulations to all of our prize winners! šŸŽ‰

If you know a teen, college student, grandchild, niece, nephew, or young adult who could benefit from learning more about money, share Money Mavericks with them.

It’s fun.
It’s engaging.
It’s educational.
And it’s FREE. šŸš€

šŸŽ“ Want to graduate with a degree AND a plan?

As I get ready for tomorrow’s Big Bend Community College WAV event, I’ve been thinking about the conversations I’ll be having with students about graduating with little or no student loan debt.

And I want to share another resource that can help.

It’s called the College Cost Planning Worksheet + Step-by-Step Video Guide—and it’s FREE!

This resource is designed for:

āœ”ļø High school graduates preparing for college
āœ”ļø Current college students
āœ”ļø Parents preparing to pay for college

The worksheet helps you map out the full expected cost of college—not just tuition. The accompanying video walks you through how to use the worksheet so you can make informed decisions about how you’ll pay for school.

Because here’s the thing:

You don't have to wait until graduation to think about college debt.

The decisions you make before and during college can make a huge difference in what your financial life looks like after you receive that diploma.

And while I won’t specifically be promoting this resource at the WAV event tomorrow, it is available online for Big Bend Community College students—and for college students, soon-to-be college students, and parents everywhere.

Best of all?

It’s FREE! šŸŽ‰

šŸŽ“ Big Bend Community College WAV Event — Here We Come!

This Thursday, I’ll be at Big Bend Community College for the WAV event, and I’m excited to spend some time talking with students about something that will impact their lives long after college:

šŸ’° MONEY!

We’ll be introducing students to Money Mavericks, a FREE video game that helps young people learn about money by practicing real-life financial decisions. Instead of just talking about money, they get to experience making choices and seeing what happens.

Students will receive a QR code they can scan to download Money Mavericks and play it on their own! šŸ“±šŸŽ®

We’ll also be having conversations with students about something I’m especially passionate about:

How can you graduate from college with little—or even no—student loan debt?

College is a huge investment, but that doesn’t mean graduating has to mean starting your adult life buried in debt.

And, of course, we’ll have some prizes to win! šŸŽ

If you’re attending WAV, come find us! Grab your QR code, learn more about Money Mavericks, enter to win a prize, and let’s talk about how you can make smart money decisions now that can give you more financial freedom later.

I can’t wait to meet you!

šŸš€ Want to learn more about Money Mavericks? You can download it for free at https://coachkime.com/money-mavericks or search ā€œMoney Mavericksā€ on the Google Play Store.

🌱 Who is Groundwork for?

Someone recently asked me that question about Groundwork: Foundations for Healthy Finances, the financial literacy course I’m offering with First Baptist Church starting September 30th.

My answer is simple:

If you have money—or want to have money—this course is for you. ā¤ļø

It’s for the teen or young adult who wants to learn how to handle money well from the beginning.

It’s for the busy adult trying to make money work alongside a career, a family, and all the demands of real life.

And it’s for those nearing or in retirement who want to learn from what didn’t go as planned and build on what has gone right.

In Groundwork, we’ll talk about practical topics like needs vs. wants, saving, spending, debt, generosity, and more.

šŸ“… Wednesdays, September 30–November 11
ā° 6:00–7:30 PM
šŸ“ First Baptist Church, Moses Lake

And there’s no need to feel embarrassed about where you’re starting. This is a place to learn, ask questions, and take the next step.

The course is FREE and open to the public!

So please register yourself, invite your family and friends, and share this post with someone who could benefit.

Let’s build stronger financial foundations in our community—together. 🌱

You Don't Need to Become an Accountant

One of the things I hear from business owners is:

ā€œI don't want to do my own accounting.ā€

Good.

You don't have to.

In fact, if accounting isn't your strength, spending hours trying to figure it out may not be the best use of your time.

Your job is to do what you do best.

Serve your customers.
Build relationships.
Create.
Sell.
Lead.
Grow.

My job is to help you understand the financial information that comes from your business.

There's a big difference between doing the accounting and understanding the accounting.

You can have someone else handle the accounting, payroll, tax preparation, and financial reporting.

And still learn enough to look at your reports and say:

ā€œOkay. Now I understand what this means—and I know what I need to think about next.ā€

That's the goal.

Not turning you into an accountant.

Helping you become a more financially confident business owner.

If you've been doing your own accounting because you thought you had to, let's talk about what support could look like as your business grows.

Your Accountant Gives You Reports. Now What?

Your accountant sends you a Profit & Loss Statement.

You open it.

You look at the columns.

You recognize some of the words.

And then…

šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļøšŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

You close it.

Sound familiar?

There's nothing wrong with you.

Accounting may simply not be your thing.

And that's okay.

You didn't start your business because you wanted to become an accountant.

But your financial reports contain information that can help you run your business better.

The key is learning how to read the story the numbers are telling you.

Are your sales growing?

Are your expenses growing faster than your revenue?

Are you actually making enough profit?

Can you afford to hire?

Are you pricing your services appropriately?

Is there enough cash to support what you're planning?

Those are business questions.

And your financial reports can help you answer them.

You don't have to do the accounting.

You just need to understand the information your accounting produces.

That's where coaching can make a difference.

Next time your financial reports arrive, don't just file them away. Pick one number you don't understand and write down the question.

What would you most like your reports to help you understand?

Who Is This For?

Let's talk about who Business Financial Accountability Coaching is really for.

It's for the small business owner who is good at what they do—but doesn't necessarily understand the numbers behind the business.

Maybe you're a contractor, consultant, healthcare provider, professional service provider, retailer, tradesperson, or another small business owner.

You're working hard.

You're growing.

You're serving your customers.

You're probably involved in your community, networking, learning, and looking for the next opportunity.

But when your accountant sends you the financial statements, you may still wonder:

Is my business actually making money?

Am I charging enough?

Can I afford to hire someone?

Why is there money in the bank but I don't feel like I'm making money?

What should I be doing with these reports?

You don't need to love accounting.

You don't even need to WANT to do your own accounting.

You just need someone who can help you understand what the numbers are saying so you can make decisions with confidence.

That's what I do.

And I work with small businesses in Washington State.

If this sounds like you—or someone you know who owns a small business in Washington—I'd love to have a conversation.
