Know Your Rights at Work: Pregnancy Discrimination Is Unlawful
Feit Electric, Inc. will pay $100,000 to settle an EEOC lawsuit after a warehouse worker was fired due to her pregnancy. The EEOC charged that this conduct violated federal civil rights laws that protect pregnant workers.

As part of the settlement, Feit Electric must also:
• Update its discrimination policies
• Train managers on pregnancy protections
• Work more carefully with staffing agencies on discrimination complaints

What workers should know:
• You cannot be fired, demoted, or treated unfairly because you are pregnant.
• Federal law requires employers to provide reasonable pregnancy-related accommodations in many situations, absent undue hardship.
• Employers must follow Title VII of the Civil Rights Act and the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act.
