Minnesota Individual Income Tax filing season opens January 23, 2023

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Minnesota Department of Revenue will open the state Individual Income Tax filing season on Monday, January 23, 2023. This date matches the opening day for the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). The filing deadline to submit 2022 Minnesota income tax returns is Tuesday, April 18, 2023.

Start of 2022 Filing Season
The opening day for filing 2022 individual returns electronically is scheduled for Monday, January 23, 2023. The UltraTax/1040 Electronic filing utility will be included on the January 19, 2023 update. That update will allow the electronic file to be created and returns that pass error checking can be transmitted to Thomson Reuters.

IRS Opening Date for 1040 Electronic Filing

As of the date of this bulletin, the IRS has not announced an opening date. At the present time, the IRS is continuing to update its programming and processing systems and will continue to work closely with the nation's tax professionals and software community as preparations continue for the 2023 tax filing season. In addition, the IRS continues to closely monitor potential legislation that could affect the 2023 tax season. The IRS anticipates that it will not be able to announce a filing season start date until later this month. Once the IRS announces the opening day for 1040 electronic filing, a product news announcement will be posted on the UltraTax CS home page.
