A restaurant owner asked us: 'My P&L says I made $80K last year, but I'm overdrawn - what's wrong?' Here's what we told them: nothing's wrong with your P&L. It's answering a different question than your bank balance. The profit is real. So is the fact that a chunk of last year's cash went into inventory you hadn't sold yet, loan principal that never touches the income statement, and sales tax sitting in your account that was never yours to begin with. You don't have a profitability problem - you have a timing problem, and it's fixable once you can see it.
