All employers are required to issue their W2s by January 31. Be sure to give us a call as soon as you get yours, so we can get your returns done and refunds on the way to your bank account as soon as possible! And remember, it’s also best to know if you’re going to owe money as soon as possible to give you time to plan for payments.

02/15/2022

It’s that time of year again! No really, you should already have what you need for us to get your taxes done today!

To file your tax return, you need your Form W-2s (if you’re an employee) and Form 1099s (if you’ve worked as an independent contractor or “gig worker”). January 31 is the deadline for employers to issue 2021 Form W-2s to employees and, generally, for businesses to issue Form 1099s to recipients of any 2021 interest, dividend or reportable miscellaneous income payments (including those made to independent contractors).

If you haven’t received a W-2 or 1099 by February 1, first contact the entity that should have issued it. If that doesn’t work, you can contact the IRS for assistance.

To set up an appointment, either email or give us a call!

National Taxpayer Advocate Erin M. Collins has released her 2021 Annual Report to Congress, which stated that 2021 was “the most challenging year taxpayers and tax professionals have ever experienced.” Tens of millions of taxpayers experienced delays in the processing of their returns and significant refund delays. Processing delays led to a cascade of customer service problems including:

*The IRS’s Where’s My Refund? tool often could not answer the question.
*Telephone service was the worst it has ever been.
*The IRS took months to process taxpayer responses to its notices, further delaying refunds.

If you need help dealing with the IRS, give us a call at 843-651-2500. We are happy to be your advocate!

Have you already filed your tax return but are still wondering when you will get your refund? The IRS has an online tool that can tell you the status of your refund. Go to irs.gov and click on “Get Your Refund Status.” To verify it’s you, you’ll need to enter your social security number, filing status, and the exact refund amount. This is the official IRS website, which is a secure site, but please be careful to *only* give such personal information to sites that you know you can trust (e.g. ending in .gov)
