Got an IRS letter about unfiled tax returns? Take a breath. 💙

That letter does not automatically set the amount you owe. The best first step is to find three things on your notice:

📌 The notice number (CP59, CP63, CP2566, or another)
📌 The tax year or years
📌 The response deadline and what the IRS is asking you to do.

Then the right response depends on your situation. You may not have filed, you may have already filed, or you may not have been required to file.

Our new guide breaks down how these notices differ, which documents to gather, and what to know if you cannot pay the full balance.

America’s Choice Tax Relief can help you understand your notice and review next steps for your situation.

🚨 Can the IRS Take Your Entire Paycheck?

You might be surprised by how much the IRS can legally take from your wages.

Unlike regular wage garnishments, IRS wage levies aren’t limited to 25% of your paycheck. The amount you get to keep depends on your filing status, dependents, and pay frequency.

💰 Here’s what you need to know:

☑ How much of your paycheck the IRS can take in 2026

☑ How the IRS calculates the amount you’re allowed to keep

☑ What to do if a wage levy leaves you struggling to cover basic expenses

☑ What tax relief options may be available to you

⚠️ Already receiving less money in your paycheck because of an IRS levy? Don’t ignore it. You may have options to address the levy and resolve your tax debt.

Can the IRS freeze your bank account without warning? 🏦

Generally, no. Before an IRS bank levy, the IRS usually must send a Final Notice of Intent to Levy and notice of your hearing rights, generally at least 30 days ahead. But a levy can still feel sudden if notices went to an old address or were overlooked.

In our new guide, you'll learn:

✅ The difference between a bank levy and a federal tax lien
✅ Which IRS notices may come first
✅ How the 21-day bank holding period works
✅ What appeal rights and release options may be available

Reading your IRS notices carefully and noting every deadline is an important first step.

🏠 Working from home? Here's a myth worth busting: doing your job from your kitchen table doesn't automatically mean you qualify for a home office tax deduction - or any special IRS relief.

The rules are different depending on whether you're a W-2 employee, self-employed, a freelancer, or running your own business from home. And if you already owe the IRS, working remotely doesn't change your options there either.

We broke down what actually applies (and what doesn't) 👇

Can tax relief companies really help with IRS debt? 🤔
If you owe the IRS and you've seen ads promising to settle your debt for "pennies on the dollar," you're right to be skeptical.
Here's the honest answer: a qualified, reputable tax relief company may be able to help you understand your IRS account, evaluate your options, and handle the paperwork and communication correctly. But no company can guarantee an outcome - and hiring one doesn't create eligibility you don't already have. Only the IRS makes the final call.

So when is professional help actually worth considering? It may make sense if your case involves multiple tax years, unfiled returns, business or payroll tax issues, or if you're simply unsure how to navigate IRS procedures on your own. Simpler cases can often be handled directly with the IRS.
We believe in transparency first. That's why we broke down:

✅ What a tax relief company can (and can't) do
✅ Real IRS options like Installment Agreements, Offer in Compromise & penalty relief
✅ Who's actually authorized to represent you before the IRS
✅ Red flags to watch for before hiring anyone

Living with a disability and dealing with IRS tax debt? You have options - but not the ones you might think.

There's no special IRS program that automatically forgives tax debt because of a disability. But depending on your financial circumstances, you may qualify for real relief options, including:

✅ Payment plans (installment agreements)
✅ Offer in Compromise - settle for less than you owe
✅ Currently Not Collectible status - a temporary pause on collections during hardship
✅ Penalty relief for reasonable cause

Disability-related expenses like medical care, in-home assistance, and transportation for treatment can factor into how the IRS evaluates your situation. But eligibility always comes down to documentation, not a diagnosis alone.

⚠️ Be cautious of anyone promising a "secret" disability forgiveness program or guaranteed results. No legitimate company can guarantee an IRS outcome.

If you or a loved one is managing tax debt while living with a disability, America's Choice Tax Relief can help you understand which IRS options may apply to your situation.

Turning up IRS notices you can't seem to shake? You're not alone, and you're not out of options.

There's no special IRS forgiveness program just because someone is a senior.

But seniors do have access to the same tax debt relief options as everyone else, including:
✅ Payment plans (installment agreements)
✅ Offers in Compromise (settle for less than you owe)
✅ Currently Not Collectible status (a temporary pause on collections)
✅ Penalty relief for qualifying situations
What actually applies to you depends on your income, expenses, and filing history, not your age.

We broke it all down in our latest article, including what the IRS may ask for and how to avoid misleading "senior tax forgiveness" claims from shady companies.

📋 How Do I Apply for Tax Relief Programs Through a Professional Company?

Owing back taxes can feel overwhelming, especially when the notices keep piling up. Here's the truth: a tax relief company can't approve anything with the IRS - but a qualified professional can review your situation, help you understand which options may apply, and prepare and submit the right request on your behalf.

Depending on your circumstances, that might mean:
✅ An Installment Agreement to pay over time ✅ An Offer in Compromise, if you qualify
✅ Currently Not Collectible status during financial hardship
✅ Penalty relief, in certain situations

Before anyone can represent you or access your IRS account, you'll typically sign an authorization form - either Form 2848 (representation) or Form 8821 (information access).

Not sure which IRS option fits your situation? America's Choice Tax Relief can walk you through it. Any request remains subject to IRS review and approval.

📋 Did you know the IRS offers penalty relief for taxpayers with a clean compliance history?
It's called First Time Abate (FTA) - an administrative program that may remove certain penalties, like Failure to File, Failure to Pay, or Failure to Deposit, for taxpayers who:

✅ Filed the required return (or had a valid extension)
✅ Paid, or arranged to pay, the tax due
✅ Had no qualifying penalties in the prior 3 years

Important: FTA is penalty relief, not full tax debt forgiveness. It doesn't erase what you owe, and not everyone qualifies.
Don't meet the requirements? You may still have options, like reasonable-cause relief or a payment plan.

Not sure where you stand? America's Choice Tax Relief can help you understand which options may apply to your situation.

💭 "Do I qualify for tax relief?" - one of the most common questions we hear.
Here's the truth: there's no single answer. The IRS looks at your filing history, income, expenses, assets, and ability to pay - and eligibility depends on the specific program, not just how much you owe.
✅ Owing more than $10,000 doesn't automatically qualify you
✅ Having a job or owning a home doesn't automatically disqualify you
✅ Don't qualify for one option? You may still qualify for another (like a payment plan)
From installment agreements to an Offer in Compromise to Currently Not Collectible status - each has its own rules.
