Penrod & George, CPA’s has offices in Napoleon, Bryan, and Ottawa, OH. This position is available for whichever office is closest to you. We have clients throughout Northwest Ohio and in Michigan and Indiana. Although we focus on clients mainly in manufacturing and construction, we have clients in many industries which presents various opportunities for diversity and growth.
Position Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented accountant with a strong tax background to prepare year-end tax returns, compiled financial statements, and a variety of client engagements. The ideal candidate combines solid public accounting experience with a genuine interest in technology and process improvement. Experience using AI tools to enhance productivity is a plus.
Key Responsibilities
• Prepare year-end tax returns for individuals, partnerships, corporations (C and S), trusts, and other entities
• Prepare compiled financial statements and related workpapers
• Handle a range of client accounting and advisory work, including bookkeeping review, adjusting entries, and financial reporting
• Research tax issues and stay current on federal, state, and local tax law changes
• Communicate directly with clients to gather information and resolve questions
• Identify opportunities to improve workflows through technology and automation
• Support the team during peak tax seasons and meet filing deadlines
Qualifications
• 2+ years of experience in a public accounting firm (required)
• Strong background and focus in tax preparation and planning
• Solid understanding of GAAP and financial statement preparation
• Proficiency with accounting and tax software (e.g., UltraTax, QuickBooks, etc.)
• Strong technology skills and comfort learning new tools quickly
• Excellent attention to detail, organization, and time management
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field
Nice to Have
• CPA license or progress toward certification
• Experience using AI tools to streamline research, drafting, or workflows
• Familiarity with cloud-based accounting platforms and automation tools
