Price CPAs team members were back at Waverly Belmont Elementary last Saturday, 2/12! Jennifer, Kristen, Alan, Ashley, Libby, and Shayna helped pack weekend food bags for the school's Backpack Food Program, alongside some of the school staff and their children. We love what the Backpack Food Program provides for the students, and we enjoy the opportunity to continue to serve these precious kids at Waverly Belmont Elementary!

Tax Tip #27:

Life insurance can be an important tool, and when setup properly, can be an instrumental part of a solid estate plan. We can advise you about how to implement a practical estate plan.

For most people, transferring wealth to loved ones or a favorite charity is a long-term goal. Appropriate tax planning for your personal situation may help ensure you leave a legacy. Estate planning involves many strategies generally designed to preserve assets, minimize taxes, and distribute proper...

Tax Tip #26:

Creating a Family Limited Partnership (FLP) is an excellent way to handle profitable investment real estate with positive cash flow. You can maintain control of the property and gift interests to others.

One way to gradually transfer your estate tax free is to use the annual exclusion and “gift” up to $15,000 per person, per year, to an unlimited number of recipients. If you and your spouse choose to “split” gifts, then $30,000 per year can be given away without you or the recipients paying ...

Tax Tip #25:

Making use of a trust is an ideal way to maintain the orderly distribution of an estate's assets to family and other heirs.

A trust, simply defined, is an arrangement whereby one person holds legal title to an asset and manages it for the benefit of another. One of the valued characteristics of a trust is its ability to bridge the gap between life and death, allowing a person to “rule from the grave,” so to speak. Ge...

To round out our intern introductions, meet Macy!

"Hi! I’m Macy Reynolds and I am a currently a Junior Accounting major at Belmont University. In my spare time I love to play with my 14 week old Goldendoodle puppy named Whitney, go on walks around campus, read books, work out, check out local coffee shops, and spend quality time with friends and family! Through my internship at Price CPAs, I am hoping to gain knowledge on the tax profession and accurately inputting tax returns. I am also looking forward to learning how to file my own tax return this year. Most importantly, I am looking forward to spending time in the office and connecting with everyone here! This is my first time working in an office setting and I love the experience that I have had at Price CPAs thus far."

We are thrilled to have you, Macy!

Tax Tip #24:

It may be tempting to take Social Security at age 62. However, if you delay taking it until age 67 the long term payout may be substantially more.

In retirement, up to 85% of your Social Security benefits may be taxed, depending on your income level. You may be affected if your modified adjusted gross income (AGI plus half of Social Security benefits plus tax-exempt income) exceeds $32,000 ($25,000 if you are single).

Tax Tip #23:

The earlier a person starts planning for retirement the better. In many cases annual contributions to tax qualified plans are tax deductible and grow tax free until the time of distribution.

It is never too early to start saving for retirement. Tax reform through the years has enhanced certain planning opportunities, most recently with the Setting Every Community Up for Retirement Enhancement (SECURE) Act signed into law in December 2019. It is the most far-reaching retirement legislati...

We are thrilled to introduce everyone to our three new interns for the 2022 tax season! First up is Madelyn:

"I go to Belmont University, and I am a Junior Finance and Accounting double major. My hobbies are sewing, wake surfing, and line dancing. What I hope to get out of my internship here is exposure to creating tax returns and how to work with clients. I also hope to get a better idea of where I want to take my career within Accounting."

Stay tuned for the other introductions throughout this week! :)
