Big changes coming this fall to the FAFSA (Financial Application for Federal Student) include the need for separate IDS for both parents/students, elimination of the 'sibling discount', elimination of the divorced parent loophole, changes to asset reporting and more

For those of you hesitant to save to 529s in case your children won't need the money, Secure Act 2.0 is allowing a conversion of up to $35,000 from the 529 to a Roth IRA after Dec 31, 2023. There are specifics that must be reached but this is a huge win in terms of tax savings

Secure Act 2.0 made some sweeping changes to retirement rules. We'll be highlight some of them here.
First off was the change in RMD age. For those born in 1950 or earlier, the RMD age is still 72. But for those born in 1951-1959, it has been increased to age 73. For those born 1960 or later, the RMD age is now 75. This allows more time for Roth conversions prior to the start of RMDs potentially lowering your required taxable withdrawal.
