Howdy everyone! This Friday, 7/10, is an important deadline for anyone who hasn't filed 2019 through 2022, OR would like to amend their returns for a refund.

I know it's short notice, but if this is you, REACH OUT! I already have a few late filers who were dreading to file their returns thinking they owe a bunch, when in REALITY THEY WERE DUE A REFUND! SERIOUSLY!!! I think about 90% of my late-filers are in this situation and had to forfeit the refunds because they filed too late.

Two simple mistakes folks make while running a non-profit organization, or business, that can get them into trouble:

1) You're likely passionate about the "cause" of your organization, so it's easy to minimize accounting needs. Partner with a good tax person immediately to get sound advice, direction, and make sure necessary tax returns are filed on time.

2) That coffee or lunch you may be treating yourself to every day on the company, or non-profit, credit card, would not be considered an "ordinary and necessary" business expense. In cases of a non-profit organization, it could be considered "embezzling."

My tax preparation office has been getting an alarming number of calls from people about IRS calling, emailing, and texting them to confirm contact and banking details. This is a scam.

The IRS will not contact you by phone, email, or text asking for confirmation of personal information and never to confirm banking details or to collect a debt.

NOTE: The IRS will only communicate by mail unless you call them.
