The OBBBA has made some changes that help working taxpayers (OT deduction, tips deduction).

Child and dependent care credit has not increased for most taxpayers, other than the income threshold limit has been eliminated. There is no income limit for 2025. The amount of expense eligible is still a maximum of $3,000 per dependent, and the maximum of care expenses for 2 or more is $6,000.

Here are details of tips that qualify for the tips deduction on your tax return.

Take a look at the and The U.S. Department of the Treasury new guidance on the One, Big, Beautiful Bill’s “no tax on tips” provision: https://ow.ly/u3N550WZzVx

Opinion:
One of the campaign's promises that the President floated was no tax on tips. The budget bill is still being worked on and the particulars are not final, but the proposal I have read says that traditionally tipped employees would have a separate deduction from taxable income of up to $25,000. I am afraid that this only perpetuates the American tipping system which allows the minimum wage to stay unchanged and below poverty level. The state of Iowa hasn't changed the minimum wage rate since January 2008.

In addition, in Iowa employers are allowed a 40% credit on the minimum wage rate and are only required to pay $4.35 an hour-60% of the regular hourly minimum rate! And what is to stop patrons cutting back on the amount they consider appropriate to tip, should this "no tax on tips" become law! Tipped employees will become worse off and employers will gain little and perhaps lose good employees in an already difficult labor market. If you earn less tipping income, less tax on lower income is not going to improve your bottom line. And fewer good employees in the restaurant business makes dining out less enjoyable and less frequent and also has a negative effect on profitability in the restaurant business.

Iowa is not included however, but 25 other states qualify.
