Topy Tax and Accounting Response to COVID-19:
As a small business owner, it can be difficult to decide how to handle times of uncertainty. Public health leaders and Governor DeWine have made it clear that social distancing is a critical step in attempting to slow the spread of COVID-19. They are encouraging all businesses, regardless of size, to do their part to practice social distancing to limit the risk of exposure.
As you know, we are a family business, and many of our clients fall in the at-risk categories. The safety of our clients and our family is of utmost importance. Based on the recommendations of Governor DeWine and the Ohio Society of CPA’s we are implementing changes to our operating process. Effective Monday March 16th we will be accepting tax returns preparation materials in the following ways: Drop off in our secure drop box (we have ordered a more secure drop box and will install it as soon as it ships to us) which will be checked daily. You can also mail (or UPS or FEDEX) your tax documents or send them through our secure portal (which we can send you a secure link to set up an account if you do not already have one). When your tax return is done we will contact you to see if you would like us to mail it to you (we will mail them out priority mail with tracking) or we can send back through our secure portal. At this time, we will not be offering in person meetings or drop off and pickup in our office. If you feel we need to discuss your tax situation in person we can set up a phone call, Skype or FaceTime. We can also exchange emails. If you would like to set up a phone call, Skype or FaceTime please call the office to schedule.
Please understand that we are not suspending operations, we are just taking the hard but necessary precautions. We will still be working to get your tax returns finished for you. There is talk in Washington D.C. right now that the deadline will be extended. The Ohio Society of CPA’s has been working with Governor DeWine’s office and has recommended that the deadline be moved to October 15th, without the need to file an extension. They are also proposing to waive the late payment penalty and interest through October 15th. Again, these are not in effect yet, but we will keep you up to date.
To keep up to date on our response to COVID 19 as well as tax deadlines please refer to our website (www.topytax.com) as well as our page (Topy Tax and Accounting).
We can still be reached via phone at 614-471-1040, however the fastest way to get a hold of us is via email at [email protected] or through our page. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to us. We hope that you and your family stay safe during this trying time for our state and nation. We all need to do our part to keep our family, friends, neighborhoods and communities safe.
