Today on Capitol Hill, I had the opportunity to engage directly with Member of Congress 14th District of North Carolina Tim Moore alongside colleagues and affiliates of the Independent Insurance Agents of North Carolina and iPAC. These conversations centered on critical legislative priorities that directly impact our clients, our agencies, and the broader insurance marketplace.

We discussed meaningful legal reform, including the Tackling Predatory Litigation Funding Act (H.R. 3512 / S. 1821), which aims to curb abusive litigation practices that continue to drive up insurance costs and erode the integrity of our legal system. The rapid rise of third-party litigation funding (TPLF) has created tax imbalances, reduced transparency, and contributed to excessive litigation—costs that ultimately fall on policyholders. In addition, we advocated for the Protecting Our Courts from Foreign Manipulation Act (H.R. 2675 / S. 3180), reinforcing the need for disclosure of litigation funding and protecting U.S. courts from foreign exploitation.

Disaster mitigation was another major focus. The Disaster Mitigation and Tax Parity Act of 2025 (H.R. 1849 / S. 336) is essential to removing tax barriers that discourage homeowners from investing in resilience. Equally important is advancing the Fixing Emergency Management for Americans Act (H.R. 4669) to strengthen federal disaster response.

Flood insurance stability remains a pressing issue. We emphasized the need for long-term reauthorization and modernization of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) ahead of its September 30 expiration. Avoiding repeated short-term extensions is critical to ensuring stability in the marketplace and protecting homeowners in high-risk areas. We also highlighted the importance of the Continuous Coverage for Flood Insurance Act (H.R. 6620), which supports a more flexible and consumer-friendly private flood insurance market.

On healthcare, we urged Congress to protect employer-sponsored coverage, expand access to telehealth, and advance price transparency. The Patients Deserve Price Transparency Act (H.R. 5582 / S. 2355) is a key step toward empowering consumers and employers with clear, standardized pricing information to drive competition and lower costs.

After 20 years in this industry, being licensed and able to speak on behalf of insurance consumers across North Carolina is something I do not take lightly. It is a true honor to advocate for legislation that directly impacts the financial security and well-being of the families and businesses we serve. Opportunities like this reinforce the importance of building strong relationships—not only with our clients back home, but also with the policymakers shaping the future of our industry.

The 2026 Big “I” Legislative Conference has been nothing short of exceptional. We are building relationships, participating in impactful workshops, learning from industry leaders, and engaging with decision-makers who are positioned to influence meaningful change. This is a true meeting of the minds—focused on expanding opportunities, strengthening our profession, and ultimately delivering better outcomes for the American people.

What makes this work so powerful is that we can create real impact without holding public office—by working directly with those elected to serve, ensuring that laws and protections reflect the best interests of our communities, our state, and our country.

I look forward to continuing this work and seeing many of these initiatives move forward for the benefit of our constituents.

Grateful to be in Washington, DC this week for the inaugural Insurance Campaign Institute and this one is different.

This isn’t theory. It’s real strategy, real conversations, and real people in our industry stepping up and seriously considering runs for public office.

Last night at The Hamilton, I sat down with agency owners from across the country leaders who understand our industry and are ready to have a voice where decisions are actually made.

The sessions have been strong across the board campaign strategy, messaging, fundraising but what stands out is the intentional focus on ex*****on.

Respect to Nathan Riedel for bringing this vision to life.

Joe Stewart delivered clear, practical, and exactly what’s needed.

And Paul Shumaker set the tone on where things are headed with data and AI if you’re not paying attention to that shift, you’re already behind.

We need more professionals willing to step up, engage, and lead. This is how that starts.

There is an educational year taking place in NC for Struck-By Hazards workplace safety initiatives.

Safety first.

Safety first.

This week, Commissioner Luke Farley, and the NC Department of Labor are highlighting the dangers of being struck-by falling and flying objects on the job as part of our Struck-By Workplace Safety Initiative.

You are at risk from falling objects when working beneath cranes, scaffolds, or any area where overhead work is being performed. Flying object hazards can occur when using power tools or during activities like pushing, pulling, or prying — causing materials to suddenly become airborne.

How do you stay safe?
🚧 Wear hard hats at all times in designated areas
🚧 Stack materials securely to prevent sliding or collapse
🚧 Use protective measures like toeboards and debris nets

Stay protected. Help us prevent struck-by incidents across North Carolina.
