What the economic impact payment envelope looks like for the debit cards being mailed. Easily mistaken for a junk mail credit card application. 😳

As Economic Impact Payments continue to be successfully delivered, the Internal Revenue Service today reminds taxpayers that some payments are being sent by prepaid debit card. The debit cards arrive in a plain envelope from “Money Network Cardholder Services.”

Nearly 4 million people are being sent their Economic Impact Payment by prepaid debit card, instead of paper check. The determination of which taxpayers received a debit card was made by the Bureau of the Fiscal Service, a part of the Treasury Department that works with the IRS to handle distribution of the payments.

Those who receive their Economic Impact Payment by prepaid debit card can do the following without any fees.

IRS will begin sending out four million stimulus payments on prepaid debit cards this week instead of mailing paper checks. With these so-called “Economic Impact Payments” (EIP) cards, clients can make purchases, get ...

COVID-19 Scams.
The Treasury Department has cautioned taxpayers of a new scam in which individuals are contacting taxpayers and informing them that they may claim United States government grants or stimulus payments in exchange for financial information or an advance fee, tax or other charge, including the purchase of gift cards. These are fake.

Also one of my Colleagues daughter received this email which is also fake.

Tax Season Starts Monday, January 27th

From the IRS...

The IRS confirmed this week that the 2020 tax season will start for individual tax return filers on Monday, Jan. 27. The deadline to file 2019 tax returns and pay any tax owed is Wednesday, April 15. More than 150 million individual tax returns for the 2019 tax year are expected to be filed, with the vast majority of those coming before the traditional April tax deadline.

"As we enter the filing season, taxpayers should know that the dedicated workforce of the IRS stands ready to help," IRS Commissioner Chuck Rettig said. "We encourage taxpayers to plan ahead and use the tools and information available on IRS website. The IRS and the nation's tax community are committed to making this another smooth filing season."
