When doing a settlement it would be better to do the lump sum if you can because once you make that first payment you update the date of last activity and that will renew the 7 year clock they have to sue you, what if something happens next month or the month after and you can't make the payment because if you don't make every single payment on time they can take back the settlement offer and put it right back to original balance owed and then take you to court for it.

The difference between a Pay for Delete and a Settlement:

Pay for Delete is an agreement between you and the Collection Agency/Creditor that they will delete the account from your Credit Report after you pay it. Some Collection Agencies will do this and some will tell you that they will but won't. Most original Creditors lean towards Settlements vs Pay for Deletes

Settlement is when the company accepts a payments less than the balance owed.

The difference? Settlements don't delete the account BUT it does remove the entire balance owed from your total debt reporting and may even make it easier to remove the account once the balance is zero.

If you have tried everything you can to remove the account already and it just won't budge, try a Pay for Delete, especially if it is with a Collection Agency and if that doesn't work move towards a Settlement and then continue to dispute the account with the Credit Bureaus.

If you are trying to build your credit and you already have several lines of credit open, you may just need to request a credit line increase. Adding more to your credit limit will automatically reduce your utilization, which will increase you credit.

Remember, you don’t need to keep adding credit cards to increase your score. Too many open credit cards to a lender makes you financial unstable.

It is not always about how many cards you have, It's about how large your line of credit is.
