The IRS raised the standard mileage rate for the rest of 2026 due to rising gas prices. Business mileage is now 76 cents per mile, up from 72.5, effective July 1. If you track mileage for work, make sure you're using the right rate for trips before and after July 1.

The midyear change follows an increase in gasoline prices, according to the IRS. It is the first such midyear adjustment since 2022.

Nonprofit board members and volunteers, here's a bit of good news out of the IRS this month.

There was some worry that new tax rules could pull volunteers and board members into an excise tax meant for highly paid nonprofit executives. The IRS just clarified that's not the case. The old protections for volunteers and limited-hours folks are still in place while final rules get written.
