Now that your taxes are filed, the smartest thing you can do is look back before you move forward. ๐Ÿ“Š

I know the last thing you want to do is think about taxes right now. But the patterns from this season will shape how next year goes, and a little reflection now could save you a lot of stress and money later.

Here are five common tax problems I see and what to do about them.

You have questions about your business finances, so letโ€™s actually answer them. ๐Ÿ’ฌ

I hear the same ones all the time.
โ“ Can I write off my home office?
โ“ Should I be a PLLC or a sole proprietor?
โ“ What expenses can I actually deduct?
โ“ Am I paying too much in taxes?
โ“ Do I need a bookkeeper?

Drop your biggest question in the comments and I will answer every single one.

No question is too basic. This is not something most people are ever taught.

Your summer trip might actually qualify as a business expense. ๐Ÿ‘€โœˆ๏ธ

The key is that business has to be the primary purpose of the trip.

If you are attending a conference, meeting a client, or participating in a professional event, parts of your trip may be deductible.

Hereโ€™s what to track.
๐Ÿ“ Where your business activities took place.
๐Ÿ“… Your travel dates and itinerary.
๐Ÿ“„ Who you met with and why.
๐Ÿงพ All receipts for travel, lodging, meals, and other expenses.

Hereโ€™s what may be deductible.
โœˆ๏ธ Transportation.
๐Ÿจ Lodging.
๐Ÿฝ๏ธ Meals.
๐ŸŽŸ๏ธ Event or conference fees.
Dry cleaning

Hereโ€™s what isnโ€™t deductible.
โŒ Personal side trips.
โŒ Expenses for non-business companions.
โŒ Anything purely personal.

The key is documentation and separation, keep everything organized and clear. If something is both ordinary and necessary, you can probably deduct it.

Keeping good records before you ever need them.

Three signs you have outgrown DIY bookkeeping.

1๏ธโƒฃ You are consistently behind on categorizing transactions.
2๏ธโƒฃ Tax season sends you into panic mode.
3๏ธโƒฃ You arenโ€™t sure what you can actually write off.
๐ŸŽ Bonus. Just thinking about your books stresses you out.

DIY bookkeeping works until it does not. As your business grows, it becomes harder to keep up and easier to fall behind.

That doesnโ€™t mean you are doing anything wrong. It just means youโ€™ve reached a new level.

Your time is valuable. Let me take this off your plate so you can focus on your business.

Happy Independence Day. ๐ŸŽ†

And while we are talking about independence, letโ€™s talk about yours.

If you have been thinking about leaving your job to start your own private practice, I want you to know it is completely doable with the right plan and support.

Here is what it typically involves.
๐Ÿ›๏ธ Choosing a business structure like a PLLC or sole proprietorship.
๐Ÿ“‹ Registering your business with your state.
๐Ÿฆ Opening a dedicated business bank account.
๐Ÿ“Š Setting up a bookkeeping system from day one.
๐Ÿ“… Understanding your tax obligations.
๐Ÿ’ก Getting clear on your pricing and projected revenue.

None of this is as complicated as it sounds when you have proper guidance. Check out my workshop Business Fundamentals for Wellness Professionals which was designed specifically for people like you, to help get you started on your journey to obtain financial and professional independence!

Tax season is officially behind you, so how did it actually go? ๐Ÿ‘€

I want to hear all of it. The wins, the frustrations, the moments where you realized you had no idea something existed, and everything in between.

Drop your honest thoughts in the comments.

๐Ÿ’š What went well?
๐Ÿ˜… What stressed you out?
๐Ÿค What do you wish you had known sooner?

When your accountant asks how much you are contributing to retirement... and you have no idea. ๐Ÿ˜…

You are not alone. But it is something worth figuring out sooner rather than later.

Here are a few options to consider.

๐Ÿ’ผ SEP IRA. Simple and great for solo business owners.
๐Ÿ’ผ Solo 401k. Ideal if you donโ€™t have employees other than yourself and you want to maximize retirement contributions.
๐Ÿ’ผ SIMPLE IRA. Good for small teams.
๐Ÿ’ผ Safe Harbor 401k. More complex but flexible.

Each option has different rules and benefits, so itโ€™s worth having a conversation before choosing.

The most important thing is starting. Even small contributions can make a big difference over time and reduce your taxable income.

Retirement planning doesnโ€™t have to be overwhelming. Iโ€™m here if you need support!

The IRS just made some changes that directly affect your practice, and if youโ€™re not paying attention, it could cost you. ๐Ÿ’ธ

Here is a quick rundown of what is new for 2026 and what it means for wellness business owners like you.

๐Ÿงพ The standard mileage rate has been updated.
๐Ÿ“ˆ Retirement contribution limits have increased.
๐Ÿข Bonus depreciation rules have shifted.
๐Ÿ’ณ 1099-K thresholds are now more strictly enforced.
๐Ÿ“ฃ 1099-NEC and 1099-MISC thresholds have been revised

None of this has to be overwhelming; this is literally what Iโ€™m here for. Staying informed is half the battle, and now you know. ๐Ÿ™Œ
Which update impacts your business the most? Let me know in the comments.

I talk a lot about your business finances, but today I want to talk about something that affects your business just as much. You.

Running a wellness practice takes everything out of you. The client sessions, the notetaking and admin work, the marketing, the bookkeeping, the scheduling. Itโ€™s a lot.

If you are pouring everything into your business without refilling your own cup, eventually something is going to give.

So this summer, I want to encourage you to actually take time away. Not a โ€œcheck your email from the beachโ€ kind of break. A real one. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ

Your business will still be there, and it will run better because you gave yourself space to reset.

How are you planning to recharge this summer? Drop it in the comments.

Today is the day.

Q2 estimates for individuals, businesses, and pass-through entities are due today, June 15th. ๐Ÿ“…

If you are in panic mode, take a breath and send me a message.

If you are all set, seriously well done.

If Q2 caught you off guard, nowโ€™s the time to make a better plan for Q3.
