Got a letter from the IRS?

Seeing IRS on an envelope can make anyone nervous. In my experience as a tax practitioner, and from talking with clients, I’ve noticed that many people see an IRS notice and immediately put it aside because they’re afraid of what it might say. But that is often the biggest mistake you can make.

An IRS notice does not automatically mean you did something wrong or that the IRS is correct. And just because you owe a balance does not mean the IRS can collect immediately. The IRS must follow a process, and the letters you receive usually tell you what stage you are in, when it is time to act, and whether you have time to understand your options and figure out what to do next.

Before you respond or send any payment, take a moment to:

🔎 Identify the notice or letter number
📅 Check the tax year or period
⏰ Find the response deadline
📄 Read and understand exactly what the IRS is saying
💰 Verify the amount before paying anything
⚖️ Know whether you have appeal or response rights

Most importantly: DON’T IGNORE THE NOTICE.

Some IRS notices are simply informational. Others require action, and missing a deadline could limit your options. Even if you are worried about what the letter says, opening it and understanding the deadline gives you a chance to respond before the situation moves further through the collection process.

As an Enrolled Agent, I help taxpayers understand what the IRS is saying, review their IRS account, and determine the best next step.

🚨 SEPTEMBER 15 IS COMING! 🚨

Business owners, don’t let this tax deadline sneak up on you! 📅

September 15, 2026 is an important deadline for:

✨ S Corporations — Extended Form 1120-S returns
✨ Partnerships — Extended Form 1065 returns
✨ 2026 Third Estimated Tax Payments

An extension gave you more time to file — but that extra time is almost up! ⏰

If your business return is still sitting on your to-do list, NOW is the time to get it handled.

One thing I saw this tax season that’s costing people thousands? S-Corps.

Because this tax season?
I had at least 5 people come to me with S-Corps and no idea what they actually signed up for.

Like… no payroll set up
Not paying themselves
Never heard of “reasonable compensation”

Just “my accountant told me to do it” 😩

And don’t get me wrong—
S-Corps can be a GREAT strategy when it makes sense.

But it’s not something you just elect and forget about.

There’s real responsibility that comes with it:
You have to run payroll
You have to pay yourself properly
You have to stay compliant

And if you don’t?
That’s where the problems (and extra costs) start coming in.

I’m not saying don’t become an S-Corp…
I’m saying make sure you actually understand why you’re doing it and what comes with it.

Because the goal isn’t just to “save on taxes”
It’s to do things the RIGHT way and actually benefit from it.

If you have an S-Corp right now and you’re like “wait…” 👀
You might want to get it reviewed.
