📅 Happy World Emoji Day! 🎉

Fun fact: the very first emoji set was created back in 1999 by Japanese designer Shigetaka Kurita — just 176 tiny pixel images made for mobile phones. Today there are more than 3,800, and honestly, we're not sure how we ever communicated without them.

And why July 17? Look closely at the 📅 calendar emoji — that's the date it displays!

Here at Paxus, our team chats are full of them.
✅ when a client's books are closed.
☕ when it's a long reconciliation day.
🐶 anytime Ducky makes an appearance.

Now it's your turn: drop the ONE emoji that best describes your business this month in the comments. We'll go first: 🔥

You hired us to do your books. Here's what that actually buys you.

Yes, we reconcile your accounts. Yes, we categorize your transactions. That's the foundation. But what our clients tell us they value most is something else entirely: the ability to make decisions with confidence.

When you know your numbers are right — actually right, month after month — you can answer questions like:

→ Can I afford to hire someone right now?
→ Is this project actually profitable?
→ Do I have enough runway to take on a slower month?

That's what clean books give you. Not just compliance. Clarity.

Here's what actually happens during your month-end close.

A lot of business owners know we do it. Fewer know what it actually means. Here's a quick look behind the curtain:

📋 Bank reconciliation — matching every transaction in your books to your bank statement. No surprises.
📂 Transaction categorization — making sure every expense and payment is coded correctly for reporting and taxes.
📊 AR/AP review — checking what you're owed and what you owe, so nothing falls through the cracks.
📈 Financial statement prep — your P&L and balance sheet, clean and current.

When this is done every month (not just at year-end), your financials actually tell you something useful.

82% of small businesses that fail cite cash flow problems as a contributing factor. Not bad products. Not the economy. Cash flow.

Here's the thing: most of those businesses weren't unprofitable. They were simply spending money before it arrived or not tracking the gap between what was owed and what was in the bank.

That gap is exactly what clean bookkeeping closes. When your books are current and accurate, you can see cash flow problems coming weeks before they arrive — which means you can actually do something about them.

Meet the people behind your numbers. 👋

Say hello to Joyce Maregmen! Joyce has been part of the Paxus team since March 2026. She helps keep client books moving by handling weekly accounting tasks and preparing monthly financial statements for review.

Guided by a deep commitment to integrity, Joyce says, “Honesty and transparency are the foundation of both meaningful relationships and successful business partnerships.”

Joyce and her husband share their home with their beloved dogs and cats. Outside the office, she enjoys watching movies, cooking, practicing yoga, and continuing to expand her accounting knowledge through online learning.

At Paxus, it is about more than numbers. It is about relationships.

Your books aren't a tax document. They're a decision-making tool you may not be using.

We talk to small business owners all the time who treat bookkeeping like a tax-season chore — something you scramble to pull together in March and hand off to your accountant.

Then it goes in a drawer until next March.

But here's what clean, current books actually do, if you let them:

→ Tell you which jobs and clients made money — and which quietly lost it
→ Show you where cash is going before it's gone
→ Turn "I think we had a good month" into "I know we did"

Taxes look backward once a year. Your books should be working for you every week.

If yours only come out at tax time, you're flying blind for the other eleven months. We can fix that. www.paxuscpa.com

Summer is a sneaky cash flow season for small businesses.

Slower invoicing, vacation coverage gaps, and delayed client payments can all hit at once — especially in construction and professional services.

Three things worth checking before July gets away from you:

1. Review your AR aging report. Anything 30+ days past due needs a follow-up .

2. Know your cash runway. If summer softens your revenue, how many weeks can you operate comfortably?

3. Revisit your projections. Summer actuals rarely match January's plan — and that's okay as long as you know it.

Need a second set of eyes on your numbers? That's what we're here for. 👇
