Sheilene holds a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting and Ethics from Mid-America Christian University. Her accounting experience is specific to construction, real estate, and property management.

She and her husband, Riley, have three children and two grandchildren. Outside work, Sheilene enjoys true crime podcasts, reading, and spending time with her family.

Happy 1-year work anniversary, Kaitlyn Webb

One year ago today, Kaitlyn Webb joined Paxus CPA Group as our intern.

Kaitlyn is pursuing her B.B.A. in Accounting and Finance at the University of Oklahoma. She is originally from Tulsa, Oklahoma. Outside work, she loves baking, painting, and playing tennis and pickleball, and has big plans to travel across Europe someday.

We're so glad you're here, Kaitlyn. Here's to year two.

Use a long passphrase and a different password for every account. A password manager can remember them for you. Then turn on two-step login (multi-factor authentication), starting with your email and bank.

Sending us financial documents? Use the secure client portal. Never email attachments.

October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month, so we're sharing simple ways to protect your business.

This tip comes from Jennifer, our Firm Administrator, who manages our IT and security:

"Before you click a link or open an attachment, check who really sent it. Look at the full email address, not just the name. If an email pushes you to act fast, slow down and call the sender at a number you already have."

A reminder: Paxus will never ask you to email your SSN, bank login, or passwords. When in doubt, call us.

Org spotlight: Norman Arts Council

In their words: "The Norman Arts Council is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting and promoting the arts in Norman, Oklahoma. Since 1976, it has fostered creativity through public art, exhibitions, festivals, education, and community events like the 2nd Friday Art Walk and Norman Music Festival."

Arts organizations run on a patchwork of grants, memberships, sponsorships, and ticket revenue, which makes for one of the trickier sets of books a small nonprofit can have. Getting it right is what allows the programming to happen.

Organization Spotlight: Women's Resource Center in Norman

In their words, WRC provides “free, confidential support for individuals of all genders experiencing domestic violence, sexual violence, and/or stalking in Cleveland County, OK.”

Organizations doing crisis work already have enough on their plates. The more we can help take care of the financial side, the more time their team can spend focused on the people who need them most.
