The IRS said in a statement that it will continue operations under the current lapse in appropriations until further notice, using funding from 2022 legislation. Taxpayers can expect IRS operations to continue as normal, with offices maintaining regular hours, online self-service help tools available and other services continuing as usual.

Anyone who has OT pay in 2025, please bring in your last pay stub to reflect your total OT pay for 2025, as it will not be on your W2. It will be on your W-2 next year, for 2026. We need this to complete the specific new form to activate it.

FYI: Also, the deduction is for the half portion of the time and a half pay. OT is still taxable, just the half portion isn't up to a certain point.

The U.S. has a marginal tax system, which means your income is taxed in layers. When you move into a higher bracket, only the last dollars you earn are taxed at that higher rate. Everything below stays taxed exactly the same.

So earning more money never makes you take home less money because of taxes alone.

This misunderstanding matters because it leads people to make bad decisions. Turning down raises. Avoiding extra work. Not negotiating pay. Or missing out on tax strategies that actually work in their favor.

Once you understand marginal tax rates, planning gets much clearer.

For example, when you contribute to a traditional 401(k), you’re not getting a flat tax break. You’re reducing income at your highest marginal rate. That’s the top slice of your income, the most expensive dollars from a tax perspective.

So if you’re in the 24 percent bracket, every dollar you defer into a 401(k) avoids being taxed at 24 percent today. Not 10 percent. Not your average rate. Your top rate.

📣📣🚨🚨Important Update – Company-Paid Meals (Effective January 1, 2026)🚨🚨📣📣

Beginning January 1, 2026, the Internal Revenue Code will no longer allow federal income tax deductions for most company-paid meals and snacks provided to employees (such as catered lunches, office snacks, or meals in employer-operated cafeterias). This change comes from Internal Revenue Code Section 274(o), which disallows deductions for the cost of meals provided for the “convenience of the employer” and expenses for operating employer-provided eating facilities.

This rule was originally added to the tax code as part of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) enacted in 2017, but its full disallowance did not take effect until tax years beginning after December 31, 2025.

In 2025, Congress passed the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA), which adjusted some related tax provisions and clarified exceptions, but free or discounted meals provided to employees on-site will still generally be non-deductible beginning in 2026.

What this means for your company:

✅ Meals and snacks provided for employees as a workplace perk or for convenience will no longer reduce your taxable income.

✅ You will need to update your expense reporting and budgeting to reflect the loss of the meal expense deduction starting in 2026.

✅ This change does not affect business meals with clients or travel meals, which remain subject to the usual IRS substantiation rules and applicable meal deduction limits.

We are eleven months into the year already! Don't let your bookkeeping go unhandled. Proper accounting is a continuous task, not an end-of-the-year event. Waiting for a tax deadline to start putting your paperwork together will only lead to mistakes, and mistakes will bring you unpleasant encounters with the IRS and possible penalties. Do the right thing, and incorporate record keeping in your daily routine. If you don't have time, we can do it for you.
