For many small business owners, bookkeeping feels like something that has to be done for taxes.
But your books should do much more than help prepare a tax return.
Good financial records should help you understand:
• Where your money is going
• Which areas of the business are actually profitable
• Whether expenses are getting out of control
• How much cash the business needs
• Whether your pricing is working
• What you can afford to pay yourself
• Where you may need to make changes
If you only look at your financial statements once a year at tax time, you're missing much of their value.
Your books shouldn't just record what already happened.
**They should help you decide what happens next.**
