The April 15th deadline is approaching, if you need more time we can file an extension for you.

The extension is not an extension to pay taxes owed, just to file.

As a tax preparer, the 2018 tax bill had two major deductions eliminated. SALT, the state and local income tax deduction was capped at 10000 dollars. This is your state withholding. property taxes and in Iowa your school district surtax and some of your vehicle registrations. Also employee expense deductions totally eliminated. This affected over the road truck drivers, construction workers and others who travel overnight for their jobs. No matter who you voted for, you can still call your representative and tell them you don't like some of the tax bill being debated now.

Not against tax cuts for everyone but they should go to those who need them the most. Not eliminate their deductions and credits.

Federal tax returns are due Monday. If you won't be able to file by then you can file an extension.

If you think you might owe taxes you can roughly estimate what you owe and send with extension.

If you are confident you will receive a refund, you don't need to file the extension. If unsure file one to avoid possible late filing charge.
