Tax season is officially behind us… and our team has more than earned a day to recharge.

Our office will be closed this Friday for a Staff Appreciation Day as a small thank you to the people who make it all happen during our busiest season.

We had the chance to hear from Gina Moran, CPA (HCJ CPAs & Advisors) in our Public Policy and the CPA Profession class at the University of Central Arkansas.

She walked through the roles of the AICPA and the Arkansas Society of CPAs, along with the growing conversation around accounting as a STEM field.

One thing that really stood out—there’s a lot happening behind the scenes to support the next generation of CPAs.

From firms to professional organizations to universities, it truly takes a group effort to build the pipeline and create opportunities for students.

We’re grateful to be part of that effort and appreciate Gina taking the time to share her insights with the class.

At Bell & Company, tax season doesn’t come without a little reward. Each year, our teams across Conway, North Little Rock, and Harrison take part in our annual staff egg hunt—where a little searching can lead to some serious cash prizes.

It’s a small way to say thank you to our team for the long hours, hard work, and dedication they bring all season long.

Let’s just say… these eggs are definitely worth finding. 👀

There’s a big difference between doing accounting… and understanding why it matters.
In our recent Public Policy & the CPA Profession class, we were reminded just how much the profession impacts the bigger picture - not just individual businesses, but economic development across Arkansas.

A stat that made the room pause:
Arkansas has approximately 6,200 accountants.
Only 724 are licensed CPAs in public accounting.

That’s not just a number — that’s a workforce gap and a major opportunity for the next generation.

We had the privilege of hearing from Daryl Bassett, Cabinet Secretary of the Arkansas Department of Labor and Licensing, who challenged students to think beyond debits and credits.

When businesses consider where to locate, they evaluate workforce pipelines — education outcomes, long-term talent development, even what middle school students are learning. That’s how deeply connected our profession is to economic growth.

He also addressed the question on everyone’s mind:
Yes, AI is here.
Yes, it will change the profession.

But it cannot replace:
• Professional skepticism
• Ethical judgment
• Complex negotiations
• Interpreting gray areas

And today’s businesses aren’t just looking for tax preparers.

They’re looking for:
• Forensic accountants
• Financial analysts
• Cash flow strategists
• Internal auditors
• Strategic advisors

At Bell, we see that shift every day. Our role goes far beyond compliance. It’s about helping businesses think ahead, grow wisely, and navigate complexity with confidence.
