The market's feeling some serious pressure this morning, thanks to China's tariff retaliation following yesterday's imposed tariffs. It's a rough start, no doubt.

However, a word of caution: resist the urge to make any panic-driven decisions. There are a couple of key reasons for this:

1️⃣ The market is currently deeply oversold. This means we've likely seen a significant overreaction in the short term.
2️⃣ This sell-off is largely event-driven, triggered by specific news. Any positive shifts in policy or negotiation outcomes between the US and other countries could spark a swift and substantial rally. 📈

Keep a cool head, stay informed, and remember that markets are dynamic. This volatility could present opportunities for those who remain patient and strategic.

Historically, markets have performed well during election cycles, no matter which party wins—though there have been a few notable exceptions. For example, under Bush and Nixon, market performance was rocky, but this was largely due to tough economic conditions rather than politics.

🚨 IRS Announces 2025 Tax Bracket and Deduction Increases 🚨

The IRS just rolled out inflation-adjusted tax changes for 2025, giving taxpayers some extra breathing room. Here’s a quick breakdown:

💰 Standard Deductions
Single filers: $15,000 (up $400)
Married couples filing jointly: $30,000 (up $800)

📊 Tax Brackets Adjusted
While the income thresholds for each bracket have shifted, the top rate of 37% remains unchanged for high earners.

These updates aim to help offset inflation’s impact, but they won’t affect your taxes until 2025 returns are filed in 2026.

It’s a good time to plan ahead—whether for withholding adjustments, retirement contributions, or just staying on top of your financial strategy. Feel free to reach out if you need help preparing for these changes!

U.S. taxpayers will again see higher standard deductions for 2025, allowing them to shield more of their money from taxation on future returns

A look at historical data reveals some interesting stock market patterns:

📈 January Effect: Small-cap stocks often see a strong start to the year, likely due to reinvestment of year-end bonuses and tax-related buying after December’s sales.

🌦️ April Showers Bring Stock Gains: Historically, April has been one of the best months for the market, with the S&P 500 averaging a 1.5% return from 1950 to 2020.

😴 Summer Slowdown: "Sell in May and go away" holds some weight as May through August tends to be slower. However, not every summer is sluggish—there have been some strong performances during this time.

🍂 Autumn Recovery: Despite its association with market crashes, October often sees a rebound. From 1926 to 2020, the S&P 500 has averaged a 0.9% return in this month.

🎄 Year-End Rally: December tends to bring holiday cheer to the market with an average return of 1.6%, fueled by year-end bonuses and the festive season.

Interesting how these patterns play out over time!

Thinking and acting for the long term is still the most sensible strategy for investors. While I’m not naive enough to think it can predict the future, studying the past does offer valuable insights. It gives us a baseline for setting realistic expectations about risk and possible outcomes.

Here’s an interesting way to look at returns over different time horizons for the S&P 500, going all the way back to 1993. It shows how perspective changes when you zoom out and focus on the bigger picture!
