We spun the wheel four times on Wednesday and every single thing it landed on was wrong.

Not wrong like a technicality. Wrong like business owners repeat these to me every week and they are quietly costing them money.

Here they are.

"Never turn away a paying client." I turned one down at my own dinner table, back when we genuinely needed the money. It did not sink us. If someone feels wrong on the first call, they usually are, and the revenue never covers what they take out of you.

"If you want it done right, do it yourself." Eighty percent done by someone else beats a hundred percent that never gets done at all. That is not settling. That is the only way work ever leaves your desk.

"Write off your clothing haul, it is content." If you would wear it anywhere else, it is not deductible. Branded uniforms count. Your haul does not. And the phrase write off is not actually in the tax code.

"My CPA is handling my financial strategy." Almost certainly not. Bookkeeping, CFO strategy, tax preparation and tax planning are four separate services. Paying for one does not get you the other three, and most owners have never been told that out loud.

That last one is the one I would send to a friend. Ask them which of the four they are actually paying for. If they cannot answer, they are probably paying for one and assuming they get all four.

Full episode is in the comments.

"My CPA is handling my financial strategy." That's what a lot of you think. It's usually not true.

Paying someone to do your taxes is not the same as having a strategy. There are really four different things your CPA might be doing for you: bookkeeping, tax preparation, tax planning, and CFO-level strategy. Most of you are only getting one of those, tax prep, once a year. And if April is the only time you talk to your CPA, you're not getting the other three.

Know what you're actually paying for. It might not be what you think.

Not sure which one you're getting? Send me a DM and I'll help you figure it out.

Ever felt like you should "have it together" by now as a business owner? 😩 You're not alone!

Drop a comment if you've been there.

In this episode, we talk about one of the easiest moves you can make for your business: setting up a line of credit before you actually need it.

While things are good, get it in place. The bank approves it easily, and it just sits there ready in case cash flow gets tight down the road. Say you get a $50,000 line of credit, that's $50,000 you can tap into anytime. It's usually a higher interest rate because it's built to be a float, not a long-term loan, so it's there for exactly the moment when money is coming in but hasn't landed yet and payroll is due today.

It's usually as simple as a transfer. No sitting down with your banker. No waiting on a loan approval.

Don't wait until you're in a cash crunch to figure this out. Set it up now, while you don't need it. 💪

Okay, my thing this week: I want to be like Enrique.

There are people out there who don't even know what we do. And there are people who think every option out there is the same. When I walk into a room, I want to be as convinced as Enrique is about dry cleaning: ours is the best. You can find financial help elsewhere, but why would you?

Ours is the best. We do it right, we do it on time, and we make sure your taxes are ready and squared away. You get us on Slack. You can message us. You can actually get us on the phone. That's not normal in this industry, but I think I've just gotten used to it.

So that's my goal this week: be like Enrique. Be excited about what I do, because it is the stinking best. It is.

Who's your "Enrique," so excited about what they do that it's contagious? DM me.

The real test of owner pay isn't how much you took last month — it's whether you can predict what you'll take next month.

Most owners I talk with pay themselves when there's extra. Some months it's $8,000. Some months it's $2,000. Some months they skip it entirely and hope tax season doesn't hurt.

That's not a pay problem. That's a system problem.

Owner pay isn't supposed to be whatever's left over after you've paid everyone else. It's a percentage of revenue that moves to you automatically, every single week, whether you remember it or not.

Pick one percentage. Start with 10-15% of weekly revenue. Move it to owner pay the same day every week. No exceptions. No 'I'll catch up next month.'

You're not guessing anymore. You're running a system.

And when that percentage hits your account like clockwork for 12 weeks straight, you'll know exactly what owner pay looks like for the year — because you built the infrastructure that makes it predictable.

If you're ready to stop hoping and start knowing what you'll pay yourself every single week, DM me to find out how I help service business owners build that exact system.

Hey friends! 🌟 Are you ready to reclaim your paycheck and time?

This week, let’s focus on one goal that truly moves your business forward.

We just got back from the Settled Conference, and it was a powerful reminder of the importance of giving and receiving.

When we pour into our businesses, we want it to overflow into our communities. Just like the Jewish ceremony where wine is poured until it spills over, let’s aim for abundance this week!

Here are some thoughts to consider:
- Are you standing up, trying to control everything?
- What can you release to allow blessings to flow into your life?
- Remember, when you’re sitting down, you can receive and share more easily.

Let’s shift our mindset from scarcity to abundance.

This week, I challenge you to be like Enrique, the dry cleaner who is proud of his work and believes he offers the best service.

How can you bring that same energy to your business? Let’s share our thoughts and support each other!

What’s your one thing this week? Let’s inspire each other to overflow with positivity and success!

Every business needs a business credit card. That's a good place to start.

I don't think you should be running everything through your debit card from your business account. And I know some of you are Dave Ramsey fans, and I just scared you a little. But here's the reason: security, spending power, and fraud protection all exist with credit in a way they just don't with debit.

If you're new and you don't have a business credit card yet, this is the first one you should get.

Start building business credit as soon as you open your doors. And stop running everything through your personal cards. The sooner you separate that, the better off you'll be.

Still running your business off a debit card? DM me, let's fix that.

You pay the team.
You pay the vendors.
You pay the taxes.

Then you take whatever's left.

Which is usually nothing.

Here's what most owners don't realize: paying yourself last isn't just hard on your family. It's training your business to operate as if you have no value.

Every month you skip your paycheck, you're reinforcing a system that doesn't include you.

The business learns it can run without compensating the owner. And once that pattern sets in, it becomes harder and harder to reverse.

You're not the problem. The sequence is.

This week, pay yourself first. Even if it's $500. Even if it feels uncomfortable.

Then let every other expense fit around it.

That one move starts retraining your business to recognize that the owner has value, that your work counts, and that your compensation isn't optional.

You've been running the business. Now let the business start working for you.

You hired someone to do your books.

They send reports every month.

But when it's time to decide how much to pay yourself, whether you can afford that hire, or if you should hold cash for taxes—you're still alone with a calculator and your gut.

That's not a you problem.

That's the difference between bookkeeping and financial partnership.

Bookkeeping records what happened. A financial partner helps you decide what happens next.

Here's how to find out which one you have:

Write down one financial decision you're facing this month. Maybe it's owner pay. Maybe it's a new equipment purchase. Maybe it's whether to build a tax reserve now or wait.

Then ask your current financial person: 'What would you do?'

Their answer tells you everything.

If they say 'I just do the books' or 'ask your CPA'—you have bookkeeping.

If they walk you through the numbers, show you the margin impact, and help you weigh the decision—you have a partner.

You don't need to fire anyone. You just need to know what you actually have, so you can build what's missing.

The business you're running today needs more than historical data. It needs someone in your corner when the decision is in front of you.

Most owners hand over their books without asking a single hard question. Then two years later they find out nobody was checking the work.

Here are six of the fifteen questions I would ask before I let anyone near my numbers.
Will I get reports every single month, and by what date. This is the floor, and I am still amazed how many owners tell me they have never received one.

Can I see the reconciliation reports, not just a summary. You do not have to know how to read them. Asking says you intend to inspect the work, and that alone changes the relationship.

How does the profit and loss relate to the balance sheet. This is the test. Plenty of people doing this work only know how to clear a bank feed. If they cannot answer it, that is not a red flag, that is the end of the call.

What access do you need to my accounts, and why. Read only is the right answer, and a good firm brings it up before you do.

Do you carry errors and omissions and data breach insurance, and can I see the certificate. This is what separates a real firm from someone who took an online course last year.

How do you work with my tax preparer during the year, not just at filing time. Taxes should not only happen in April.

There are nine more, plus five bonus ones I did not have time for on the show. DM me and I will send you the whole list.
