Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont announced that that Connecticut residents can soon apply to receive the recently enacted state tax rebate of up to $250 per child for a maximum of three children. The application period will open on June 1, 2022, and will close on July 31, 2022. This timeline will enable qualified recipients to receive funds beginning in late August. To apply, applicants should go to the Department of Revenue Services (DRS) website and click on the icon that says "CT Child Tax Rebate." DRS is sending informational postcards to more than 300,000 households who may meet eligibility requirements. Any Connecticut resident who claimed at least one dependent child under the age of 18 on their 2021 federal income tax return may be eligible. Taxpayers are eligible for the full rebate if their federal adjusted gross income for the 2021 tax year falls at or below certain thresholds, which vary by filing status. The threshold for single filers or married filing separately is $100,000; the threshold for head of household is $160,000; and the threshold for married filing jointly or surviving spouses is $200,000. For taxpayers with incomes exceeding these thresholds, the rebate phases out at a rate of 10% for every $1,000, or fraction of $1,000, of adjusted gross income exceeding the threshold.
