We get a variety of questions surrounding Crypto Currency here at Tax Ninja. So for the next few days I'll be posting a few as well as the answers to them.

The first comes from someone working in the Valley. He writes.

There is price discrepancy between different exchanges in different countries. What are tax implications of buying on low exchange and selling on high?

Just because you buy and sell Crypto Currency vs stocks does not mean that the same rules do not apply. It's best to generalize Crypto Currencies as shares of stock when trying to determine how the IRS will treat your transactions.

So if you buy low and sell high you just created a short term capital gains transaction. You will be taxed at your ordinary income tax rate.
