Here's what's tax exempt, what's not, and everything else you need to know to get the most out of this state holiday and support local businesses👇
When Is It?
Friday, August 7th through Sunday, August 9th.
What Is Tax-Free Weekend?
A period of time meant to benefit both consumers and retailers in Oklahoma when retail sales taxes are not collectible or payable on a specific class of purchases.
Who Does It Apply to?
If an item is tax exempt, anyone may make the purchase tax-free.
What Items Are Tax Exempt?
Any article of clothing or footwear designed to be worn on or about the human body with a sales price of less than $100 is tax exempt.
What Items Are Not Tax Exempt?
- Any accessories (jewelry, handbags, luggage, umbrellas, wallets, watches, etc.)
- Special clothing or footwear designed for athletic activity or protective use that is not normally worn except when used for athletic activity or protective use (things like football pads, cleats, shin guards).
- The rental of clothing or footwear.
Where Can I Shop?
You can shop online, via catalogs, or at retail locations.

Could that call about "protecting your account" actually be a scam?

AI has given financial scammers a serious upgrade. The good news? The more you know, the harder you are to fool. Our Director of IT put together a guide on what he's seeing right now, and more importantly, what to do about it:

👉Urgency is a red flag. Phrases like "your account will be frozen in 24 hours" or "this investment window closes tonight" are designed to make you act before you think, which is exactly what scammers want.

👉Voice cloning is real. A short voicemail or video clip is enough to fake a loved one's voice asking to wire them money. Set a family code word now before you ever need it.

👉Watch for fake "AI trading platforms." Your balance grows fast, you're pushed to deposit more, and when you try to withdraw, you're suddenly told you owe fees first. Then the platform disappears, along with the money you put into it.

👉Verify any advisor before investing with them. Fake profiles now come with real-looking credentials and headshots. Check FINRA's Broker Check first, it's free and takes two minutes.

👉Two easy habits: turn on transaction alerts for your accounts, and use a password manager like 1Password so one data breach doesn't compromise everything else.

👉Remember: Knowledge is power. The more you and your loved ones know, the harder you are to fool.

If you paid interest or penalties to the IRS during COVID-19, you may be eligible for a refund. But is filing a claim worth it? Here's what you need to know👇

What Happened?

A federal court ruled that certain IRS penalties and interest charged during COVID-19 (January 20, 2020 - July 10, 2023) may have been improperly assessed.

What Does This Mean?

If you paid interest or penalties to the IRS during COVID-19, you may be eligible for a protective claim refund.

Think You May Qualify? What to Consider:

- The deadline to file is July 10, 2026.
- The government has appealed the ruling, but a refund is NOT guaranteed and could be years away.
- Filing costs time and money. The cost could outweigh the potential benefits depending on your situation.

Should I File?

This is not a decision to make on your own. Make sure to talk to your tax advisor before the July 10th deadline.
