It’s a beginning of a new year, which brings us to year end filings and of course the beginning of tax season !! Your tax forms will be finding your mailbox soon. Once you have all your information required to prepare your 2020 income tax returns, contact one of our tax professionals to set up your appointment.
For 2021, the deadline for W-2s and 1099s is February 1, 2021. If you believe you need to issue either, please make sure to contact your tax professional.
As most of you have seen, Congress has passed a second stimulus package. You may have noticed an increase in your bank account in the past week, as each eligible individual will receive $600 or $1,200 per couple. This time around each dependent will also receive $600. If you have a family of four, this could mean an extra $2,400 in your pockets. These numbers could be limited depending on your 2019 AGI. If you earned $75,000 or less ($150,000 for married filing joint (MFJ)), you will receive the full amount. If you did not receive the stimulus payment and believe you should have, please make sure to notify your tax professional when preparing your 2020 income tax return.
Once again, small businesses are included in the second stimulus package and allow businesses a second draw on their PPP loan, so long as they meet the requirements. To qualify for a second loan, small businesses must have fewer than 300 employees, unless you are in the restaurant or food service industry which stayed at previous requirement of PPP1 of less than 500 employees, have used their PPP1 loan prior to disbursement of PPP2 loan proceeds, and show a 25% reduction in revenue in any one quarter compared to the same quarter in 2019. If you were not in business in 2019 but were in business by February 15, 2020, please contact your tax professional to determine if your business qualifies.
There were many other individual and business provisions included in the bill passed in late December 2020. If you have any questions or want to apply for the PPP2, please give us a call to set up an appointment to discuss your personal or business needs.
We hope you all have a happy and prosperous new year!!
