As the United States celebrates its 250th birthday, I wanted to reflect on my own journey....my American dream.

I have now lived in the United States for more than half my life. I've spent more years living here than in the country where I was born, Spain. I came to America by choice, and I continue to stay by choice.

This country welcomed me with opportunities to build a life, grow professionally, and pursue dreams that may not have been possible otherwise. My immigration journey was not easy. The United States has a rigorous immigration system designed to protect its national interests first, while providing a legal path for those who want to become part of this nation. The journey required patience, financial commitment, and determination. But all of that gave me an even deeper appreciation for the privilege and responsibility of becoming an American.

Today, I am proud to call the United States my home and proud to celebrate its 250 years of history, innovation, resilience, and the ideals that continue to inspire people from around the world.

Happy 250th Birthday, USA! šŸ‡ŗšŸ‡ø

Markets are taking a break this Good Friday.

On Friday, April 3, both the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq will be closed in observance of the holiday. The U.S. bond market is also expected to wrap up early at noon, in line with guidance from SIFMA, the industry trade association.

It’s a bit unusual—U.S. stock markets don’t often close for days that aren’t federal holidays.

Outside of Wall Street, though, it’s business as usual. Mail delivery will continue as normal, and most banks are expected to stay open since they follow the federal holiday calendar.

A quiet day for the markets—but business carries on elsewhere!

šŸ‚ Social Security COLA Update šŸ‚

Each fall, Social Security beneficiaries eagerly await the announcement of the annual Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA). This adjustment helps benefits keep pace with inflation, making it one of the most closely watched updates of the year.

Here’s what you need to know as we head into October:

šŸ“Œ When is the COLA announced?
The Social Security Administration announces the COLA each mid-October, using inflation data from the third quarter of the year (July–September) and comparing it to the same period in the previous year.

šŸ“Œ When does it take effect?
Any increase takes effect in January of the following year.
āž”ļø For example: The 2026 COLA will be announced in October 2025 and applied to benefits beginning January 2026.

šŸ“Š What are the early estimates?
While the official number won’t be released until October, unofficial projections from The Senior Citizens League (TSCL) and the Social Security Board of Trustees are pointing to a 2.7%–2.8% COLA.

Stay tuned—this fall’s announcement is right around the corner! šŸ

We love HSA accounts, but… did you know this little-known fact?

šŸ‘‰ At age 65 or older, you can withdraw HSA funds for any purpose — not just medical — without the 20% penalty!

You’ll just owe ordinary income tax on non-medical withdrawals, kind of like an IRA.

HSAs aren’t just for medical expenses — they’re a powerful retirement tool too!
