Has QuickBooks ever told you you're off by some random amount? How much? 👇

His reconciliation was off by $2,500 and he was ready to delete the whole month and start over. The money was never missing — one transaction from two months earlier had been edited after it was reconciled, his beginning balance moved, and every number after it moved with it.

Plain version: QuickBooks almost never loses money. Something in an old month got touched, and the history quietly rewrote itself. Ten minutes to find. No deleting.

The Payment That Got Counted Twice | Quiet Mistakes, Part 2

She paid her $8,500 card bill from checking and recorded it — everything right. QuickBooks still said she owed it. When the payment showed up in her card feed she hit Add, and her books counted the same payment a second time: $17,000 paid on paper for an $8,500 bill.

Plain version: your bank paid it once. If the feed creates it again instead of matching it to the payment you already recorded, the books pay it twice — and the balance looks like you never paid at all.
