While we're not as busy with tax returns in this "off-season", we have been investing ourselves in continuing education so that we can take advantage of every available (and ethical) tax move on behalf of our clients. We're gearing up for what already promises to be a very full final quarter with our client family.

Something I frequently see is that many families pay little mind to estate planning because the estate tax threshold is so high ($5.45M for an individual, $10.9M for a couple). The fact is that for some farmers and business owners whose inventory and supplies can surprisingly affect this number, this is actually a short-sighted mistake.


And regardless of whether your assets will or will not be affected by this exemption, everyone should focus on what could really be accomplished through their legacy. Start there.
