Hurricane Isaias tax relief: what you need to know
The IRS has pushed back many federal tax deadlines for storm-affected counties:
Florida: deadlines on or after Oct. 9 now due Feb. 8, 2027
Alabama: deadlines on or after Oct. 7 now due Feb. 4, 2027
More help is pending. Both states are under FEMA emergency declarations right now. FEMA Individual Assistance for housing, home repairs, and uninsured losses won't open until a major disaster declaration is approved. Damage assessments are still underway.
If you had damage, document it now: photos, receipts, claim numbers, repair estimates. Be ready to apply the day it opens.
Track the declarations:
Florida: https://www.fema.gov/disaster/3655
Alabama: https://www.fema.gov/disaster/3656
What moved:
1. 2025 returns on extension
2. Q4 estimated tax payment
3. Quarterly payroll returns
What did NOT move:
1. Tax owed on 2025 returns (due last April)
2. Payroll tax deposits
3. W-2 and 1099 deadlines
4. State taxes
Florida business owners: zero-interest Emergency Bridge Loans up to $100,000 ($150,000 for ag and aquaculture) are open now. One-year term. It's a loan, not a grant.
