This month’s Employee Spotlight is on Dylan, a Senior Tax Associate in our Portland office. Dylan has been with Apercen for just over two years.

There were three attributes that drew Dylan to Apercen when deciding where to work following graduating from Oregon State University. Dylan shares, “The first was Apercen’s strong value of excellence and mission to provide the best service to its clients. During my time here at Apercen I can attest to the statement that everyone in the organization is very talented, knowledgeable, and operating at the highest level of their profession. The second thing that drew me to Apercen was the people and the culture. Apercen has created a culture of excellence while also maintaining a strong people first approach. It should be noted that the work at Apercen is highly collaborative, so everyone at Apercen will have a great opportunity to get to know their coworkers while learning from extremely knowledgeable and skilled professionals. The third thing that drew me to Apercen was the nature of the work. Apercen has exposure to some of the most interesting and complex scenarios in the tax world, leading to many opportunities to learn and grow.”

Dylan’s greatest accomplishment has been earning his CPA license while working full-time. He passed the final section of the CPA exam in July 2025, just over a year after graduating from Oregon State University and joining Apercen. In addition to passing the exam, Dylan achieved the third-highest average CPA exam score among candidates in Oregon that year.

Juana, a Tax Partner shares, “It has been such a joy to watch Dylan grow & establish himself as a great professional over the last two years at Apercen. His commitment to excellence is evident in everything he does, and his CPA award is one perfect example. Knowing Dylan, he wasn’t aiming for the achievement. He just approached all his commitments – life, work, and study time methodically and his energy and efforts paid off. I am so excited to witness his career continue to progress. Sky is the limit.”

Outside of work, Dylan enjoys staying active through weightlifting, golfing, and bowling. As an avid bowler, he even has his own bowling ball and shoes. He also enjoys watching Premier League soccer and spending as much time as possible with friends and family.

Last month, our Folsom Tax team hosted a pre-busy season event, welcoming our interns with a whitewater rafting adventure near our Folsom office. It was a great opportunity to build connections, strengthen teamwork, and make lasting memories before the season kicks into high gear. Here's to a successful busy season ahead!

This month, we're proud to highlight Katie, a Senior Tax Associate in our Pasadena office! Katie's journey with Apercen began more than five years ago as a summer intern. Since then, she has grown into a valued member of the team.

What initially drew Katie to Apercen was not only the firm's unique client base, but also its people. Katie shares, “They truly care about you as a person and spend the time to further your career goals. The work can be challenging, so being able to be open and communicative with your team is a great asset.”

One of the aspects of her role that Katie is most proud of is recruiting and training new associates and interns. She enjoys mentoring individuals who are eager to learn and bring fresh perspectives to the firm. Watching their development and success has become one of her favorite parts of the job.

Rachel, a Senior Tax Manager, shares “Katie is someone who readily adapts to changing situations and takes every opportunity to learn and grow with every project she is tasked with.”.

Outside of the office, Katie enjoys a variety of creative hobbies, including crochet, cross-stitch, embroidery, and reading. She's also working toward mastering knitting, a skill she describes as a work in progress!

Last month we were excited to welcome 26 Summer Interns and 11 new Associates to Austin, Texas, for Summer Hire Orientation Week (SHOW).

Throughout the week, they participated in training, professional development sessions, and team-building activities led by Apercen's Learning & Development team, along with members of our Tax, Recruiting, HR, and Tech teams. SHOW provided an opportunity to build connections, develop new skills, and gain insights into life at Apercen.

We're excited to welcome this talented group and look forward to seeing all they accomplish.

This month’s Employee Spotlight is on Megan, a Senior Finance Manager. Megan joined Apercen in December 2023, and she says it’s hard to believe that 2.5 years have already flown by. She has truly enjoyed her experience and is grateful for the opportunities, relationships, and professional growth she has found along the way.

With a background as a Corporate Controller for a local high-net-worth investment management firm that also provided family office services, Megan was drawn to Apercen by the opportunity to further immerse herself in the family office space and expand her experience working directly with clients. Megan was especially drawn to Apercen’s collaborative culture and the chance to work alongside a talented and diverse team dedicated to exceptional client service. The role offered a unique chance to build and improve processes, partner closely with clients on complex financial matters, and make a meaningful impact beyond traditional accounting and finance responsibilities.

Megan is most proud of the relationships she has built with both clients and colleagues. Megan shared, “Over the past few years, I've had the opportunity to take on increasingly complex client responsibilities, improve processes, and help create stability and continuity for the families we serve, while also helping to build a collaborative, high-performing team. It's incredibly rewarding to look back and see how much I've learned and grown, while contributing to the success of our clients, my teammates, and the firm as a whole.”

Rex, a Controller shared “Megan always goes above and beyond for the client and her colleagues. She exemplifies what it means to be a tactical partner addressing client needs, while simultaneously building a team around her as a leader.”

A fun fact about Megan is that she has three kids, two dogs, and a husband who serves as a nonprofit CEO, so life outside of work is always busy, energetic, and centered around family, community, and service. Her family includes two soccer-loving boys and a college-bound teenage stepdaughter, which means their calendar is often packed with practices, tournaments, school events, and volunteer commitments. There is rarely a dull moment, and she wouldn’t have it any other way.

Outside of work, Megan enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, reading, and giving back to the community through her role as Treasurer of the Completely KIDS Guild. Much of her free time is spent cheering on her children at their various activities, especially soccer. With two soccer-obsessed boys in the house, it’s no surprise that the World Cup will be front and center this summer, and the family’s schedule (and television) will reflect it.

Today we recognize and celebrate the fathers, grandfathers, stepfathers, and father figures who provide guidance, support, and leadership to their families and communities. We are grateful for the positive impact they make both at home and in the workplace.

Today, Apercen joins in honoring Juneteenth, a day that commemorates freedom, resilience, and progress. In observance of the holiday, our office is closed today and will reopen Monday, June 22.
