If you claimed:

• Earned Income Credit
• Child Tax Credit

Your refund was held due to the
Protecting Americans from Tax Hikes Act of 2015

That hold lifts mid February each year.

Here’s what you need to know:

✔ Transcripts usually update before Where’s My Refund
✔ If your cycle code ends in 05, you are a weekly account
✔ Weekly accounts typically update late Friday
✔ Many people see changes Saturday morning
✔ Code 846 = Refund Issued

Refunds are processed in batches…not all at once.

Please avoid checking every hour. Updates typically happen overnight.

If your transcript shows 846, your refund has been approved and scheduled.

IRS Refund Update for Clients — 2026 Tax Season

To keep you informed, the IRS has updated how refunds are issued.

The IRS is moving away from paper refund checks. Most refunds are now sent by direct deposit only, and this is the fastest and preferred method.

Paper checks are no longer the standard option and are only issued in limited situations where an electronic payment cannot be processed.

What this means for you:
• Please make sure your banking information is accurate when completing your tax paperwork.
• Direct deposit remains the quickest way to receive your refund, typically within about 21 days once your return is accepted.
• If banking information is not provided or cannot be verified, the IRS may delay your refund while requesting updated details.
