The 𝐂𝐋𝐓𝐂® (𝐂𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐋𝐨𝐧𝐠-𝐓𝐞𝐫𝐦 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐞) designation helps financial professionals talk about and plan for the big financial, physical, and emotional issues that come with needing extended care. It goes beyond just saving money to handle the challenges of living longer. 𝐂𝐋𝐓𝐂® professionals use tools like long-term care insurance, VA benefits, and personal savings to create complete plans for their clients.

When talking about long-term care, three main things matter:

1. Where Care Happens: Knowing where you will get care, like at home or in a facility.
2. Who Provides Care: Understanding who will help, such as nurses or caregivers.
3. How It’s Paid For: Figuring out how to cover the costs.

The goal is to protect your money, keep your lifestyle, and make things easier for your family. This often involves customized insurance plans and personal financial options that fit your needs.

If you would like to discuss your long-term care needs, please feel free to contact me. I hold a 𝐂𝐋𝐓𝐂 ® certification and am here to help.

The national median cost of an assisted living community was $5,900 per month in 2024, which translates to $70,800 annually. This cost increased by 10% from the previous year, highlighting the rapid escalation of long-term care expenses. For 2025, some estimates project the median cost to be around $5,676 or $6,129 per month, depending on the data source.

𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆:
Planning for retirement is essential, especially for long-term care needs.

🏩 70% of seniors require long-term care.
🏩 Medicare usually doesn’t cover most assisted living costs.
🏩 Lack of planning can financially burden families.
🏩 Options like long-term care insurance and Health Savings Accounts (HSAs) can protect retirement savings.
🏩 In essence, proactive planning ensures access to care without depleting finances.

Medicare rarely covers the costs of long-term care, such as assistance with daily living activities (bathing, dressing, eating) or care in an assisted-living facility or nursing home. The costs can be significant, averaging over $114,000 annually for a semi-private nursing home room in some areas. A Certified Financial Planner® ensures these potential expenses are addressed proactively rather than reactively.

The goal of a retirement strategy is to achieve your desired destination at the right time. When I read articles stating, "active money managers find it difficult to outperform index funds due to tariffs and economic uncertainty," I think we're overlooking the main issue. While it's interesting to analyze whether investments underperform or outperform, the focus should be on whether they facilitate your specific goals regarding timing and location.

𝕊ℂ𝔸𝕄 𝔸𝕃𝔼ℝ𝕋

There is a rise in new and sophisticated scams targeting people nationwide. One of the newer tactics is a phone scam related to call forwarding.

What is a call forwarding scam?
Attackers will call, text, or message you pretending to be from a:
🔴Phone provider (AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, etc.)
🔴Bank or delivery service
🔴Government agency (IRS, Social Security)
🔴Technology/security team

They instruct you to dial a number beginning with **21 or **72 (e.g., **21* #) “to stop a problem,” “verify your device,” or “block a hacker.”

Dialing those codes activates call forwarding which can send all of your incoming calls to the attacker’s number. Some scams use links that automatically activate call forwarding without you realizing it.

Once active, attackers can:
🔴Intercept verification codes (multi-factor authentication (MFA), banking, payroll changes)
🔴Reset passwords and take over accounts

🚨🚨Other active scams to watch for🚨🚨
🔴Fake IT support - Asking you to “verify your MFA” or “update security now”
🔴Payroll or HR impersonation - Requesting W-2s, direct deposit changes, or benefit changes
🔴Shared file scams - Contain malicious links or may ask you to log in to steal credentials
🔴Calendar invite scams - Contain malicious links or simply want to confirm an account is active (do not accept or decline these invites – report or delete them without responding)
🔴 Gift card scams - pretending to be a principal, supervisor, priest, preacher, etc., needing your assistance

👉🏽👉🏽 What you should do:
🔴 𝐃𝐎 𝐍𝐎𝐓 click links or open attachments from unexpected messages – even if they look legitimate. Always verify by a separate method (phone call, new email thread, chat, etc.) before acting on unusual requests.
🔴 Report suspicious messages in Gmail using the Phish Alert Button button.

If you think your phone or account is compromised
DO NOT WAIT – Us a device that is NOT compromised and reset your password immediately. Contact your carrier or the service provider if needed.

Please share this with your loved ones, especially vulnerable adults you know.

Freezing your credit score is an effective way to safeguard against identity theft. It prevents unauthorized access to your credit report, making it more difficult for criminals to open new accounts in your name.

Steps to Freeze Your Credit:

❄️ Contact the three major credit bureaus: Experian, TransUnion, and Equifax. 𝗠𝗔𝗞𝗘 𝗦𝗨𝗥𝗘 𝗧𝗢 𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝘄𝗲𝗯𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗲𝘀 rather than searching on Google, as scammers may create fake sites.
❄️Request a credit freeze.
❄️Secure your PIN or password information.

Keep in mind that you can unfreeze your credit whenever you need to apply for credit or a loan.

If you have questions how this works, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.
